Hibbitty Skibbitty began early one Saturday morning on Nov. 1, 2004
when Gina Violina and August Kube first met each other at the Chico Farmers Market. Gina had her hand painted violin case on the sissy-bar of her bicycle and August was carrying his acoustic guitar when their paths met. They started playing music together and haven't stopped yet.
December 2004 Hibbitty Skibbitty began performing at the downtown Chico Has Beans Cafe with friends Dave Breed on bass and Jomby on percussion. By February 2005 Hibbitty Skibbitty was performing as a violin and guitar duo with Gina singing. Hibbitty Skibbitty played on the first friday of each month at Has Beans throughout 2005 and started appearing at senior care facilities and hospitals in Chico including The Townsend House, Windchime, Peg Taylor, Sycamore Glenn, Prestige, Twin Oaks, The Courtyard, Oakmont, Chico Creek Hospital and The Terraces (now called California Park
rehab Hospital). Many of these places continue to enjoy regular performances of music and puppets by Hibbitty Skibbitty.July 2005 Hibbitty Skibbitty performed at the Oregon Country Fair and in September that year they hosted Chico's Dragonfly Festival and Talent Show. In November 05 Hibbitty Skibbitty was called to the Russian River Valley to entertain at a special event at DeLoach Vineyard. It worked out well because they were invited back in Dec. 06.December 2005 Jorge Mojolote (marionette 1) had a dream that he would star in a Hollywood Motion Picture, so Hibbitty Skibbitty booked some performances at the Chevy Chase Country Club in Glendale, California to fund the project. By Feb. 2006 Jorge had completed his first feature film entitled JORGE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD. In the movie Jorge takes the new L.A. Metro to Hollywood Blvd. where he does some sightseeing. He puts his feet in Julie Andrews footprints in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater and visits Herb Alpert's star dancing and making friends along the way, making his dream come true.Hibbitty Skibbitty has recently finished editing their second movie project and is excited about releasing it soon. In the new movie, called THE AVIANS, Jorge travels all around looking for love. It will include the new 4 min. movie JORGE'S DONUT with original music by August Kube of Letus Jam and Hibbitty Skibbitty and other short movies with the rest of the puppets.Hibbitty Skibbitty performs often at Chico's local favorite Cafe Flo and at Teaz Me. Moxie's began having Hibbitty Skibbitty do their live show on the first Saturday of each month during Chico's Art Walk.Chico's 120 degree heatwave of 2006 encouraged Hibbitty Skibbitty to perform at some cafes near the beach in Eureka, Fortuna, Arcata and Trinidad. Hibbitty Skibbitty returned to Trinidad in Oct. and Nov. 06 to celebrate Dia de los Muertes with a special show at The Beachcomber Cafe.In June 2006 Hibbitty Skibbitty was honored to be one of the musical groups to perform at the KZFR Touch of Chico fundraising event, and plays live on-the-air sometimes with D.J.X. on KZFR's Saturday show, Chico Butter.Hibbitty Skibbitty is known for having guest musicians join them at some of their shows. 9 Iota - Tiny space traveler from the second moon of Planet Equinox. These puppets create a world where nothing very bad happens. They travel, have hobbies and friends and even fall in love. With the beautiful music it is good therapy. It's relaxing. When the marionettes join in it's hard not to respond. They're looking at you. They're smiling at you. They're dancing for you. How can you resist? They aren't intimidating. They're absurd. Their highfalutin' frivolity creates the atmosphere of a bizarre modern fable. Don't be so self-conscious. You can be silly, the puppets don't care.
