Well i'd say i'm bit of a vinyl junkie,i've been a collector
of various genres of black music, for the past 30yrs.
soul/northern/modern/disco/raregroove
funk/boogie/deephouse/vocalhouse.
In the early 80's i used to travel up and down
the country, going to various soul events
allnighters/alldayers/weekenders/scooter rallies!!!
to get that buzz listening to quality soul music
and spending my hard earned cash on a nice piece of black vinyl.
It was like a drug, the more you went the more you wanted?
and the more i wanted the more i went,
if you get what i mean?
I started Djing mid 80's,playing 70's and 80's modernsoul
@ Soul events,Scooterist nights,All-dayers and All-niters.
Must say all those tapes i handed out back then paid off
I was asked to do a guest spot @ the Mayfair (GLASGOW )
where Edwin Starr was doing a gig. What a night,he belted out
all his classics, the floor was packed to every tune.
To my amazement afterwards, the man himself came up to me
and shook my hand.Of course i got a photo with him!
shame to say but when i went to get my photo's back,
none of them turned out.The memory's still clear though.
From then i never looked back,i was doing slots @ Scooter Club-nights.
For the C.V.S,GLOBETROTTERS,MARAUDERS,RENEGADE SOLDIERS.
All-niters at
STRATHCLYDE UNI,GLASGOW UNI,GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART,
GLASGOW BARROWLANDS,STIRLING UNI,COLLAGE OF COMMERCE
PAISLEY TOWN HALL,THE BRIDGEGATE
But through time i felt the Scooterist scene had got stale,
same records getting played different venues, same format.
So i decided to start my own night @HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS 1987
after speaking to Colin Mcgavigan. He was the guy who ran the club.
He'd heard me on several occasions, doing a few slots,
at the scooterist nights that were held there monthly.
So i started up "SOUL SAUCE",monthly on a Sunday night!
things took off well,i was asked to do a Monthly Friday night.
I opened all 3rooms@the venue,with guest Dj's every month.
ROOM 1..70's,80's Modern/Indie/Raregroove.
ROOM 2..Chillout..Jazz/Deepsoul/Ballads.
ROOM 3..Northern/Oldies/Newies/Obscure.
Then in 91 the STUDIO closed,i thought it was the end for me.
Until i was approached by John Laird of the ROCKGARDEN.
There i held a residency until 2002,not bad i'd say?
11 years @ the realm doing what i do best, spinning my grooves.
From 91 - 2008, i'd say my musical preferences have changed.
Still playing soul but more influenced by deephouse and Soulful Vocals.
