"Greetings friends! You are now listening to your Faith and Deliverance Hour, a weekly presentation eminating from the main sanctuary of the Tabernacle of Prayer, the Center of Hope, located at 41 Rockaway Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. A Spirit-filled church with a heartful of love, and long arms that are now extending around the world." Your first impression after listening to this format may have been to laugh, as you realized that this church was on only ONE radio station, with a membership of approximately 100 people.
But the Pastor was a man of vision, a man who was able to see things, never as they appeared to be, but always as they could be through God. In his heart, Apostle Washington knew that his little congregation, if not large in size, was large in love.
Fron the opening format, way back in 1970 up to this present day, God has seen fit to bring his prophecy to pass. It is no longer a vision, but a reality established in fact. Through Apostle Washington's preaching, the Tabernacle of Prayer became a world wide ministry, being heard on over 61 radio stations around the world, with Pastor Washington preaching somewhere in the world at least 193 times a week. No longer a congregation of 100, but an Army of 4,000 spiritually mobilized saints. No longer a single church, but a Fellowship numbering some 50 churches and 19 Bible Schools.
Yes, God did it all, and in less than 16 years. we have seen the handiwork of God, as the Tabernacle Fellowship became acquainted with the "El Shaddai" of the Word. God Himself has nourished us and sustained us over the years. He fed us on His word, and nourished us in His love. We have grown up on the vitamin of Faith, liberally supplemented by Joy and Peace.
It has been a Fellowship that has known adversity, but one which overcame with patience. It has been a Fellowship led with wisdom, love, care, and concern by an Overseer who was always conscious of who is the Greater. He was a man unshaken when others despaired, one who walked in the light while others often stumbled in the dark. He was to us a Moses, who loved us enough to chastise us, and even when we seemed too slow of heart to follow, still he was willing to lead.
What we shall always remember most about him is his unwavering faith in God and his great love for us, his children. What we shall miss most about this precious man of God is THE VISION.
