Colin was born in Lanark, Scotland, in 1985 and began to study the piano at the age of seven. In 1999 he was accepted into the Music School of Douglas Academy, Glasgow, to study piano with Jean Hutchison. After winning a scholarship to study at Birmingham Conservatoire, Colin continued his studies with Professor Malcolm Wilson and Simon Nicholls. During his time at the Conservatoire, Colin has performed in many Master-classes in both solo and accompanying roles including: Graham Johnson, Andrew West, Peter Donohoe and Vladimir Tropp. Between 2005 and 2008 Colin won all five of the possible prizes for an accompanist in the Conservatoire as well as winning the Beryl Chempin Beethoven Prize for solo pianists in 2006. Last November Colin was one of the four finalists in The Yamaha Birmingham Accompanist of the Year Award, a biannual international competition hosted by the Conservatoire. Colin regularly performs in Birmingham and has appeared up and down the country including concerts in Glasgow, Fenwick, Leeds, Gloucester, Oxford, Swindon, Chipping Camden and London. Colin is continuing his studies on a part-time post graduate course at Birmingham Conservatoire where he is pursuing more specialized study in song accompaniment and chamber music. Colin is also working as a free lance accompanist at Birmingham Conservatoire and is involved with the Elmhurst School for Dance regularly accompanying their ballet classes and rehearsals. Most recently Colin has accepted a scholarship to study piano accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music enrolling onto their Master of Arts programme in September 2008. Colin has recently been awarded a Musicians Benevolent Fund Education Award for accompanists and repetiteurs.
