Summer 1864
I am a family man, devoted to the preservation of the Union. I am very proud of the fact that I have recruited slaves and ex-slaves for the Union Army. I am also proud that I have controlled the nuisance of Confederate guerillas in my beloved Commonwealth of Kentucky. As a Brigadier General in the Union Army, I defeated the most infamous Confederate guerilla of them all, Confederate General John Hunt Morgan. For that, I was brevetted a Major General of Volunteers, with the personal thanks of my hero, President Lincoln. My position of total command over the state is solid and proceeding very well.
By the way, Civil War historian and author Bryan S. Bush has written an article about me . Please kindly give it your attention.
Thank you dear madams and sirs for your time.
