Case Woo

About Me

Seventeen years have seen his evolution from electropop to trip hop, from manic depressive angst to dance culture.
Case’s musical catharsis began early in school with his adolescent years haunted by the new wave synthetic sounds of the 80’s. A four year stint in Canada opened up his darker horizons to hardcore electronic rock, industrial techno and cyberpunk outfits like Skinny Puppy and Nitzer Ebb. The early 90’s saw him releasing industrial electronica under the pseudonym of Censor. Hip2TheHype was a collaborative project which eventually became a precursor to the remixing team Quadmix in the mid 90’s. These projects, together with frequent radio airplay of the track "Trick Rider", attracted the attention of BMG and Warner/Chappell, and Quadmix became Singapore’s first major dance music signing.More singles were released following the success of the breakbeat album "Rocking The 3rd Floor" in 1996. They also went on to win Singapore’s COMPASS award for 3 consecutive years.
Case’s desire to remain true to himself lead him to discover a new love in deephouse and techhouse in 1998. Natural influences came from weekly hangouts with prominent local and foreign DJs and splurges on tracks from Thomas Chrome and Dan Curtin to anything from the label Guidance and Naked Music. Obsession was inevitable. These sounds were true to Case and its vibe cut deep.
At this stage, Case has already released tracks under San Francisco and Berlin labels Transport Recordings and Lifetime Music respectively. He has also released a solo album, ’A Deeper Shade’, which brought out the best in this veteran producer. Hailed by industry maestros as the first deep/tech-house offering from Singapore, Case continued to push his own limits as a producer and that led him to a collaboration in 2002 with another Asian veteran and buddy, Kit Chan. The duo will be collaborating on all future albums fusing their respective strengths, resulting in melancholic electronica.
Today, after a nearly two decade long journey of pure electronic music and genre experimentation, Case has come one full circle to return to his roots. Synthpop is back once again in the form of a collaboration with veteran DJ Angela Flame.
