History
Bought my first guitar in '85 - Just completed High School. I am self taught. A year after I bought that guitar I was playing Lead in my first band - and getting paid for it! Quick Learner! Haven't stopped yet! I have had one year off from gigging. (I think!)
Equipment
Guitars
Gibson Les Paul Standard '89 - Had it since new. Bridge pick up is out of a '71 Black Beauty Les Paul, that I once owned.
Owned a couple of Fender Strats, tried the EMG factor - Not happy. I Now use live a Squire Strat (I do have a couple) My black one has Fender Pro shop Texas Specials in it. The bridge pickup is reverse angled (Hendrix Factor) I saw Ian Moss use this set up, I had to try it -never looked back. I also have a toggle switch to combine the front & back Pickups (Telecaster factor)I do have quite a few other guitars. One worth noting - a '71 Mosrite Celebrity series with 'F' hole. Original everything.
Amps
Marshall 'Bluesbreaker' JTM 45 combo with Green Backs' Ahhhhhhhh!!!!.
Fender Bassman 4 x 10 Silverface.
Fender 210 combo.
FX
Zoom 9150 Valve DSP processor Had one for Ten Years, did thousands of gigs, only spent $50 on repairs in ten years. It died 2 years ago at a NYE gig. A mate of mine (Marshall - check his & 'the Fro's' site out in 'My Friends' list - Boys Got Talent) had the same model that had never been used. I bought it from him without a second thought - this time it came with a Beringer Midi FCB1010 foot controller. Gotta love that. It does all that I need, as well as having a Valve pre amp - great for recording straight to desk (or in my case PC) And RELIABLE!
Influences: Can't speak for the others! Mine are
ALL ROUND MUSIC
The Beatles (John Lennon - no one can be compared to the talents of this man & his 3 mates!) Have been listening to their music since I was 3. Pop music started & ended with The Beatles - everything after was an influence
GUITAR
Jimmy Hendrix - I am probably not even worthy of mentioning his name!)
Eric Clapton (God)
SRV (they say he could channel Hendrix!)
David Gilmore (Pink Floyd) - One note does so much more than a thousand!
Ian Moss (Cold Chisel & Solo)Australia's finest feel guitarist - His Blues notes can make you cry
Phil Emmanual - one of Australias most versatile pickers (Brother of Tommy-personally I prefer Phil's playing - more of an edge!)(Gold Rush & Solo)(Tommy Emmanual was actually the Drummer for Gold Rush)
- If you haven't heard of these Two (Phil & Ian) Do a search for them, buy there albums. You Non-Aussie guitarists don't know what you have been missin!!
Horace Bevan - When I first started to play, I would go and watch him play live with a band called Rockola, and then Bourbon street. I would then go home and try to work out riffs and licks that I heard. Later through the years I went to many of his gigs, and would end up playing a solo during the night while riding on his shoulders.
The Hellecasters (Will, Jerry, & John - after ten years of listening - they still blow my mind)
Lynyrd Skynard - (Greatest American Band) - Im a guitar head & they had 3 of them!
Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) Still today he is a major influence in my playing!
Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) Believe it or not, I learnt my first country lick from Physical Graffiti
Peter Frampton
BB King, Albert King, Howlin Wolf, Buddy Guy (Saw him live - walked through the venue stood on my toes as he went past - "Im not worthy", Peter Green, Gary Moore, Angus Young (AC/DC), Chuck Berry,
Johnny Winters, Muddy Waters
and many more Blues/Rock/Country Rock artists.
IN LIFE
My Father, My wife & my beautifull Kids, My best mates, especially Glenno (Poppy) who through years of us just talking about life, music, & everything in general, and everything private has given me the strength, encouragement, & self esteem to focus on the real things in life that matter! - And I thank him for that!
