About Me

Paul Lopez has been flying aerobatics since 1998. He has been a pilot for over 20 years, earning his pilots license the old fashion way. As a teenager he washed planes at a flight school in trade for flight lessons.Beyond doing airshows Paul is a serious competition aerobatic pilot currently flying in the unlimited category with his eyes set on the US Aerobatic Team where he hopes to compete in a world championship. Eventually Paul would like to qualify as a RedBull Air Race Pilot. Paul currently lives in Zephyrhills just North of Tampa FL.The airshow routine showcases the superior vertical performance of the MX2 with several multiple hovers for the first half of the performance followed by a slow graceful aerial ballet flown at slow speeds performing micro sized maneuvers using the horsepower to claw through the air performing aerobatic basics in a unique way. The act is designed to showcase the attributes of both plane and pilot. During the performance he will hit speeds in excess of 275 MPH, and pulling 11.5 G’s as he puts the MX2 through its paces.www.paullopezairshows.comAerobatic Achievements: ....1st Place Unlimited Keystone Heights, FL April 2008 ....1st Place Advanced Vermont Aerobatic Championship 2007 ....6 Top 5 finishes 2007 Advanced ....2005 South East Intermediate Champion ....Ranked 5th in the Nation for 2004 in Sportsman Category ....1st Place 2004 Fall Sebring Aerobatic Championships Sportsman ....Pitts Special Manufactures trophy 1999 New England Aerobatic Championships for highest scoring Pitts Pilot for all Categories combined.Personal Biography: Throughout my entire childhood my father took me to all kinds of airshows throughout Southern California. I knew from then on that I wanted to fly aerobatics after watching Art Scholl, and Bob Hover. I had my first aerobatic ride when I was 16 from a raffle I had won at an airshow. I have been hooked ever since. I earned my private pilots license when I was 18 years old by washing airplanes in trade for flight instruction at Van Nuys airport in California.Professional Career Currently I am employed with a South East based bank where I am the First Vice President in charge of commercial finance for the Gulf Coast of Florida. It has been my success in this field that has afforded me the wonderful opportunity to realize my childhood dream of flying aerobatics.Aircraft Description: The MX2 is a 2 place Unlimited category monoplane • 100% Carbon Fiber • 3,500 feet of vertical performance • 13 vertical rolls • 420 degree a second roll rate • 14 Gs positive and negative (stronger than any other aerobatic airplane experimental or certified) • 380 HP Lycon Built Lycoming 540 Motor • Range is 700 statute miles • Fuel capacity is 58 US gallonsThe MX2 is the most modern 2 place unlimited aerobatic airplane built.
