Wilson Creek

About Me

A s performers, songwriters and instrumentalists, Wilson Creek is known for their unique ability to transform bluegrass, folk, rock, gospel and country genres into their own brand of Americana. As early as 2005, the three had already known each other for several months when they found themselves together as hired guns on numerous studio projects for other artists. By 2006 the trio began playing unofficial shows together in various places as sought after musical guests. Recognizing their common interest and musical taste, the group became official in early 2007 as Wilson Creek.
Most recently Wilson Creek snached a 2nd place finish in the 2009 International Bluegrass Band Championship hosted by SPBGMA in Nashville, TN
Coming from a family of veterans which include the likes of the MarshallFamily, Heather and Jessica Adkins were raised to appreciate the importanceof tight harmonies, and solid songwriting. Deep rooted in Bluegrass but not secluded to, Heather and Jessica were exposed to so many genres growing up. Those variousinfluences along with their experiences are recognizable in their music today, and a prominent piece in the songs they write and create.
Jessica Adkins
Jessica has had the desire to play fiddle since age nine. She recallsher mother teaching them melodies and lyrics, "I remember singing harmonywith my sisters on the song Fox On the Run." Having a great desire tobring her musical visions to life, Jessica offers her own lyrics, melodiesand soaring vocal abilities as a fundamental dimension tothe band. Jessica's own "Foolish Pride" was chosen as a top pick in the final round of Mountain Stage's Newsong Competition in 2008.
Heather Adkins
Heather recognized at an early age, while watching her mother play and sing, that the guitar was for her. "At the age of eight I had my mom show me every chord and song thatshe knew until I could play everything she could." Playing along with allthe records she could find like: Larry Sparks, Tony Rice, James Taylor, and Emmylou Harris, Heather increased her flatpicking and songwritingskills. "I find music to be an ongoing learningexperience at which I learn something new everyday, with every new record I listen to, I can take something away from it." Heather recently garnered a 2ndplace finish at the 2008 Vandalia Gathering flatpicking contest in Charleston, WestVirginia with plans to enter many more in the upcoming 2009 season.
Rudy Rohr
Born in Huntington, West Virginia and named for his great uncle and Big Band era trumpet player, Rudy Rohr carries onward the tradition of music in his family. "Since I can remember, we've always had music in the house. Styles from smooth Jazz vocalists to 60's Folk and Pop, Blues and Rock to traditional and modern Celtic and Bluegrass have all played a part in my musical upbringing. Those influences show up in the way I play, arrange and record music." With countless production credits to his name, Rudy is no stranger to the music making process. Playing mandolin, guitar and bass professionally since age 13, he has performed in virtually every state east of the Mississippi and many to the west, as well as Mexico and Canada. Over years he's become a familiar face to many at Bluegrass festivals, large and small, of the eastern United States. At the same time honing his engineering and playing skills in recording studios and venues on both sides of the mixing console. His often sought technical expertise is second to none. Bringing his vast experience and diverse musical tastes into the trio, he adds the third dimension to the Wilson Creek palette. "There's still more fresh music out there to make and to explore."
Comments about Rudy from others:
"The Tonemeister" -Fred Travers, Seldom Scene
"One of the most improvisational mandolin players in the field of Neo Mando Funk-Punk Bluegrass!" -Stuart Duncan, Nashville Bluegrass Band
