Abshalom Ben Shlomo has been bringing the gift of music to people both in America and in Israel, Northeast Africa, for over a quarter of a century. He is a member of the African Edenic Hebrew Israelite Community in Dimona, Israel. His arrival to the Holy Land thirty-four years ago signaled a major change in his lifestyle and music.....

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Abshalom Ben Shlomo attended Englewood High School, Wilson Jr. College, as well as the Sherwood School of Music and the Rizzo School of Music, studying under Joe Daley and later, the Chicago Conservatory of Music.  He was an active member of the Chicago Chapter of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (A.A.C.M.) in the 1960’s where he performed with the A.A.C.M. Big Band, as well as the Light, Roscoe Mitchell, John Stubblefield, Henry Threadgill, Joe Jarman and others. In later years, he studied and performed with Phil Cohran and Company, after which he became a member of the Pharoah’s Band which at that time included: Louis Satterfield, Don Myrick, Pete Cosey, Bob Crowder, B.R., Ohkoshay and Charles Handy, Jr. He also studied privately under Muhal Richard Abrams as well as other outstanding Chicago musicians, such as Bob Pulliam, Lenwood Brown and Sax Man Bootsy Robinson. Abshalom has performed on several tours with the world-renowned Blues Man Memphis Slim and with acclaimed pianists Kirk Lightsey and Jazz great Arnie Lawrence.  Before leaving Chicago to join the Arkestra of Sun Ra, with whom he remained for two and a half years, he had the honor of working with blues man - Mighty Joe Young. Shortly thereafter, he embarked on his very first, highly successful European tour with the Sun Ra Arkestra. ....

Abshalom moved to Israel in July of 1971 where he has worked with a number of Israeli musicians, as well as the highly talented musicians from his own community and toured with the legendary Soul Messengers Band for years. Â In 1990, Ben Shlomo formed "'The Abshalom Ben Shlomo Ethnic Experience" - a sextet of polished and accomplished musicians and recorded his first solo release. Â The sextet appeared in the prestigious Eilat Red Sea Jazz Festival where they received outstanding commendations and sat-in on jam sessions with SpyroGyra and other international acts. Â A seasoned saxophonist as well as an accomplished flautist, Ben Shlomo sees the New Age Musicians as the heralders of truth and seeks to blow the horn of peace and understanding to the four corners of the earth. ....
