About Me

The Wookies, were formed by front man SoupKitchenKyle in 1999 at Meow Mix Studio in the beautiful town of Longmont, Colorado. The recordings were first recorded on 4-track tape and then mastered to cd to give it that raw underground LoFi sound. The Wookies also record with some unusual instruments. Kyle made an electric washtub bass that adds that old timey tone to several of The Wookies songs on this cd and others.. We also use an oud qraqeb, & didgeridoo that Kyle picked up on his travels toAustralia.& Moorooco. The Wookies love to travel and when they are not traveling, making music, or performing, they are out in the forest looking for BigFoot.

Influences: We The Wookies feel that the written word & Audio/Visual imagery has influenced our music to the extent as the bands we like. Influences: (Literary): Mark Twain, Jack Keroack, Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, and Edward Abby. (Fine Art): Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Vincent VanGogh, & Salvador Dali. (70’s Music) The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who & The Doors. (Jazz) Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Stuff Smith, Jango Reinhardt, Stephan Grappelli. (Blues) The Reverend Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt, Woody Guthrie, & Jimmy Rodgers. (Contemporary) The Shins, XTC, Spoon, Beck, The Lemonheads, Bright Eyes, Daniel Johnston, & DeVotchKa.
Sounds Like: The Wookies music crosses many genres and some people say hay, you should stick to one genre, or hay, you should wear pants but we say, Why? The brave style of SoupKitchenKyle & The Wookies ties a common thread throughout the music and brings all the genres together. Some may say we sound like a cross between Louis Armstrong and Ziggy Stardust, or Woody Guthrie & The White Stripes , or Django Reinhardt meets Judas Priest. If Mark Twain, Salvador Dali, The Coen Brothers, & Bill Clinton formed a band they would probably sound like us.
