About Me

I love the question entertainers get asked all the time. "So who would I find in your CD player right now?" Well as with a lot of singer/songwriters you could find any number of genres in mine - - anybody from Bonnie Raitt, Jewel or Dolly to Vince Gill, Ray Charles or III Tyme Out. In fact I'd be a little hard-pressed to say who my favorite artist is or what my absolute favorite music is. Chances are some who'll read this may not have even heard yet of some of my favorites....namely Iris Dement whose music moves me like none other. The music of Patty Loveless affects me in a similar way and of course I could never mention my favs without talking about Alison Krauss & Union Station.I am a little more fortunate than a lot of people perhaps in having been exposed to the music of so many wonderful artists both well-known and not so well-known during my years in radio first at Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky where I earned my Master's degree in radio and television, at WSKV Radio in Stanton, Kentucky where I hosted the "Sunday Morning Bluegrass Gospel Jamboree" for five years and at WRFL, public radio from the University of Kentucky, from 1995 to 2003 as co-host of "The Blue Yodel Number 9" and "The Hard Travelin' Revue." Perhaps the years at WMKY Radio at my alma mater mean the most to me since that's where I cut my teeth and where I had the privilege of starting the station's first bluegrass show called Bluegrass Diversion which I'm happy to say remains on the air today. Tell me 'bout the good ole days.....So as you can see radio is truly one of the greatest loves of my life but another love of my life started way before I ever stepped foot inside a college classroom. Unironically it goes hand-in-hand with radio and is probably the reason I chose a career in broadcasting. I finally gave in to this other love in 2003 and moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue music FT! I always kid people and tell them that I just got tired of playing other people's music on the radio and wanted somebody to play mine for a change! I got lucky and landed my first singing job at the historic Nashville Palace on Music Valley Drive two months after I hit town. I stayed there for nearly a year then moved three doors up the street to the GuestHouse Inn where I worked in the lounge as a "one-woman show" for 18 months. My steady gig at the moment is at a private resort, The Wyndham Nashville, located near Opryland Hotel. I also continue however to book out-of-state shows periodically as well as do some guest singing at both historic Renfro Valley in Renfro Valley, Kentucky and at John A's on Music Valley Drive in Nashville. Be sure to give me a yell the next time you're in Music City!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: just my myspace site at the moment
Band Members: I do a lot of solo work but one of the neatest things about living in Nashville is that I'm near any given number of musicians at any given time so although the names of my band members may change from time-to-time the venues that I work can always be assured of getting that top-notch Nashville sound!
Influences: My Mom, Bea Briscoe, for getting me started singing in church with her and my sisters when I was 12. Also Dolly & Loretta. And all the folks who were singing on the Grand Ole Opry when I was growing up. Others would have to include Alison Krauss, Patty Loveless, Iris DeMent, Pam Tillis, Reba, Wynonna, Trisha Yearwood and tons of other folk and bluegrass people that I've interviewed and whose music I've played over the years in my radio work. Last but not least my Dad, Chester Briscoe, who only sings when he thinks no one is listening but still plays his fiddle regularly at the age of 78.
Sounds Like: I've been told that I laugh and talk like Dolly at times - which of course doesn't make me mad at all! - and sing like anywhere from her to Reba. Another angle to "sounding like" to me relates to cover songs. I guess I should go ahead and officially even call it a pet peeve of mine. The way I see it it's important to learn a cover song as it was originally cut with the same phrasing, inflection, etc., etc. I figure if it worked the first time why change it. I know there's more than one way to "skin a cat" as the saying goes but in my mind it's almost a matter of showing respect for a great song by not changing it when I cover it. It goes without saying however that trying to "copy" someone else's voice is out of the question unless you get paid to do that sort of thing in Branson or Vegas or somewhere of course!!
