MIMITAH

About Me

After a big campaign in September 2008, Mimitah released her debut single “Tata Muasi.“ She then went back to Kinshasa (DR Congo) to promote the single in December 2008, after nearly 2 decades of having left her Motherland.Arriving in Congo Mimitah was shocked by what she had to see, Congo didn’t appear to be the way she remembered it as a child, but she still felt the warm heart of her people who embarrassed her as though a long lost child returned home.Tata Muasi proved to be a hit in Congo, topping the Congolese charts and winning millions of fans across the country. After seeing the difficulties that people faced in Congo, Mimitah decides to put herself on a mission to bring Congolese music to the world and give it the exposure it needs, raise awareness for the cruelty women face in Africa, also help raise awareness on deportation.Mimitah was born in Congo then came to England to be with her parents, growing up in a refugee family was never easy as she recalls, her only get away was music which won her places in church choirs and local girl groups. She later evolved into live music with a local band called Africa Jambo in east London, Africa Jambo use to perform every Sundays in a club formerly known as Twilight, this gave Mimitah experience and confidence on stage. Fans loved her sweet personality, as she was the only African female artist in the UK singing rumba, her popularity grew more and more when she sang songs like “Nairobi” by Mbilia bel.At this point mimitah infused her dancing ability with her singing, her first encounter with Kanda Bongo Man was when Africa Jambo was asked to accompany KBM for his London concert, Mimitah joined him as a dancer.
