WE PLAY MUSIC FOR FUN - 'COS WE CAN ALRIGHT!!! ;-)
We are the original team that started the Weekend Warriors music program in Australia in July 2001. Thanks to Skips Music in USA and NAMM we got the idea to develop the idea here in Oz. The Australian Music Association helped enormously to get it national across every state and territory.....
It all started with Greg Dodge and crew at a Brisbane based music store, Ellaways Music, starting with five new bands and four weeks of jamming and then a concert to a packed house of family and friends and live music enthusiasts. It went off ....and still does!!
After the two year success of over 8 concerts and hundreds of Baby Boomers (and younger) rejoining bands, Greg went on to train many people across Australia and discovered many with the real love of playing in a a band with other like minded people. Some starting new and some returning to playing after many years break.
Now in it's seventh year, only a few people still get it. Bob Spencer and Paul Norton are two that have been with it in Melbourne since 2003. Plus Michelle and others. Adelaide are still strong and NSW has some gatherings.
Bob McMahon (Boz) joined Ellaways Music in 2006 and along with Pauline Moles, have kept it on track and on the rails. Over 500 people and over a 100 new bands formed (maybe over 200 across the country)....now being enjoyed by those as young as 15 and as old as the mid "6o's.
