About Me

Dreams should never be reduced in potency by subjecting them to reality.
When I set out to create my musical tapestry, there was one specific focus I had in mind, if indeed I had any:
to combine simplicity and elegance at once and apply them using different approaches from those that had been used before.
I have never studied music, unless you consider those half-dozen or so guitar lessons I took when I was a teenager.
I have always felt this is my great advantage, rather than a weakness. It is this fresh perspective that I bring to the scene, since I am not influenced by what should be possible by theory, but rather choose what is possible through experimentation. It is this technique which allows me to present that which seems familiar and feels comfortable, while breaking outside the boundaries of what is fashionable or technically correct. It also means that I don't have to adhere to ANY rules, save one:
does it sound good?
My recently deceased father studied for many years as an operatic tenor, so the classics were introduced to me at a very young age. Great tragedy struck me and my family when I was seven years old, thrusting me into a vicious world for which I was totally unprepared. Through this tragedy I was introduced to the modern pop music emerging at that time, via The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Turtles, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, to name but a few. Later I would be a big fan of jazz, both traditional and the fusion scene with artists like Weather Report and Return To Forever. Thus I bring many musical visions into focus for the discerning listener who has grown tired of the repetitiveness and drudgery that modern music has for the most part become.
With this in mind, I present my musical works to you, the discerning listener. There has been great pain and great joy bringing these works of art to life. I hope you enjoy listening to them. If they bring you joy or pleasure, I hope you'll share that with me.

Influences: Everything and Nothing - I don't write from knowledge, I write from inspiration. Inspiration comes from a deep introspective examination of your deepest feelings and desires, not from listening to the music of others. Listening to the music of others may give you ideas, but only music that is inspired has the power to truly move people emotionally. The rest is just a shallow imitation of inspiration and true creativity.

I know enough musical theory to know Every Good Boy Does Fine & Good Boys Do Fine Always and I can count simple or complex time signatures, but I learned that after I had already used some pretty complex timings and wanted to know what they were.

Anyway, I think you should ignore all of those rules. Write what's in your heart or in your soul, and it will be right, because music that comes from that pure place is never wrong, no matter what any critic says.

Sounds Like:

Bill Anderson - if you like progressive bands like Yes, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Camel, or Rush you will probably like me. You'll probably also like my music if you like Elton John, Billy Joel, Joe Jackson, Sting, The Police, The Cars, or any other pop or melodically inspired artists. If you like jazz or classical music, you'll also probably like what I do.

Forget the trash being produced today for mass consumption. This isn't art or music. It is some greedy bastard's idea of what the masses will buy; the wankers producing this crap are not truly invested in this "music", they are only interested in your dollar or your adoration. Art is not the result of opinion polls or demographics. Art is produced by artists: people with real feelings and desires. People who are invested in what they produce, regardless of profit or fame. Few understand the commitment or investment required to create great art. It is time for true revolution in the art world: you should reject the visual for the esoteric. Musical value is often in inverse proportion to visual appeal.
