SCUA On Night Watch - Lengeth 1hour 24minutes
What's New
Well everyone it’s almost that time again! Yes of course we’re talking about the annual Roswell New Mexico UFO festival! This year marks the 59th anniversary of the Roswell event. As some of you know this is a time for venders, bands, attractions, and of course ufologists to flood the otherwise calm streets of Roswell New Mexico. While the carnival like atmosphere appeals to the young and young at heart; lectures by ufologists Stanton Freidman, Don Schmit, and Derril Simms appeal to the more seasoned UFO enthusiast.
This year SCUA will be sending a team of 5 to the UFO festival to explore attend lectures and report back. 2 days before they arrive in Roswell they will be camping out outside in the Nevada desert. They will be camping out just south of Rachel Nevada near the world famous “BLACK MAILBOX†along freeway 375(extraterrestrial hwy). For you rookies out there that’s right outside of Area 51. Within legal limits of course. They will be there for one full day in the end of June. There they will do a live broadcast for "Night Watch" the radio show for things that go bump in the night! We will post the exact time and location soon. We encourage anyone interested to join us on our Area 51 camp out. We hope to get as many UFO enthusiasts as possible for this night of campfires, sky watching, story swapping, networking, and good times. We’re trying to get a really big turn out for this event. If interested please contact SCUA. More to follow…
***Update***
We are now clear on the date of the camp out. It will take place Tuesday June 27th. SCUA will be setting up camp right near the black mailbox Area 51 3PM June 27th and will be leaving for Roswell June 4PM 28th. Directions to The Black Mailbox from Las Vegas follow.
(From Las Vegas take I-15 north for 22 miles. At exit 64 take US-93 north. After 85 miles, 12 miles past Alamo, you come to the intersection with Hwy. 318 on the left. Directly across the road from the intersection, to your right, you will see the ruins of an old casino.
At the intersection turn left onto Hwy. 318, and after less than a mile veer left again onto Hwy. 375. At that intersection you will see the "Extraterrestrial Highway" sign under a group of trees. Ironically, right next to the sign, in the shade of the trees, is where some of the Area 51 workers park their cars to take the white bus into Area 51.
From the beginning of Hwy. 375 it is about 15 miles over Hancock Summit to the beginning of Groom Lake Road, 20 miles to the Black Mailbox (Where We Will Be CAMPING) and 39 miles to Rachel.
The last gas in Las Vegas is at the Craig Rd. exit. There are a few gas station on the way, in Alamo, Ash Springs, Rachel (only regular unleaded) and Tonopah. However, some of the stretches without gas are over 100 miles, and some of the gas stations close at night. So you may want to keep an eye on your gas.)
