Xtian Goblyn & the Hydra

About Me

Christian started playing guitar in 1984 at age 12 in Sarasota Florida. Over the next 2 years he was in a mildly known band named "Public Nuisance." By age 14 he had formed a band called "The House-Call Abortions" with T. Ganus, in which he practiced not only graphic arts, and song-writing, but also audio recording on analog tapes. Somewhere around 15 years old, he taught his childhood friend Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music) how to play some chords, and punk songs... among other devious things. After a few rough years with drug overdose and being either institutionalized, or street roaming, Christian resurfaced in 1989 with his brother Mierd, now in East-Central Florida ...right across the river from NASA in Port St. John. During this time he and Mierd trained themselves classically, and spent odd evenings around open mic bars playing acoustic for beer from the warlock bikers of the swamp. All while developing and offering for sale their first fully functional comic book called "Misery." In 1992 the musical duo met J. Harwood while working in an old oyster bar on Merritt Island. They formed the band "Mothersmile" which led to frequent live appearances, and meeting florida in it's eyes. The next stage of the recording arts came for Christian in 1994, when he met (Full-Sail Graduate) Ben Herlinger. Full swing into the Mothersmile band, Mierd and Christian would go on long recording binges with 4 and 8-track analog recorders... creating vivid soundscapes and at other times 30 second blasts of feral punk rock. These tapes would later become known as "The Green Goblyn Project." Ben would mentor the brothers goblyn on live sound, and recording techniques, while Christian, Now becoming known as X-tian, and Mierd together with Ben, would start laying the foundations on which their record label originally called "Bent-Mother Records" would be built. With The Untimely death of J. Harwood came the death of Mothersmile, and the re-birth of the record label "Bony Orbit." During the initial decline, onto the stage would squeeze "The Green Goblyn Project" howling in all their glory. After an impressive decade of incessant touring, and hundreds if not a thousand shows, The "Goblyns" still thrive, Touring with nationally known punk acts, and releasing records into the arms of legendary punk label "Alternative Tentacles" under the ever-steady flag of Bony Orbit Records. Xtian Goblyn always writes on an acoustic guitar, and as is common while performing this way in the swamps of Florida...tribes gather and recalled are the melodies grumbled. Women hiss, and the sound becomes that of the many headed Hydra.Xtian Goblyn and the Hydra is an acoustic experience which rattles the cage of the current emo-acoustic trend, and offers a diversity which has yet to be defined. The Group consists of an ever evolving list of respectable back up players and harmonizers. A North American Tour is currently being generated and the response has been breathtaking."Dark-Folk-Gothic-Acoustic-Core-Swamp-Punk-Rock " ...as only goblyns can do!~ Lance McNamera (Famous Space Explorer) NASA RESEARCH DEPT.
