Under the name Sheikh Ad Helik I have been working as a VJ for the last 14 years. I was one of the first to display video visuals in clubs after experience in the 1980s playing with lightshows for psychedelic bands.
I have performed at most of London’s clubs and venues including The Royal Festival Hall. I work frequently with DJ Nelson Dilation and together we used to run a club called Salon Oriental which played extensively throughout Europe featuring many different acts.

The visuals are a mixture of psychedelic imagery fused with global themes from Islamic patterns to tribal African footage as well as images of the natural world. I used to use a vision mixer, monitor and at least three video players to do the show, but these days I tend to do it all from a laptop computer. Over the last ten years I have played in about twenty countries throughout Europe and North Africa with much more planned for the future.
Graphic design using computers has long been an interest of mine. I started in the late 1980s doing anything from simple leaflets menus and advertisements, through to designing club flyers, posters and record sleeves. I’m familiar with a large variety of art packages including Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Draw, 3D Studio, 3DMax and Flash. I have worked for graphic design companies doing the artwork for catalogues, and I’ve also worked on large business presentations.
I have been making websites for the last 10 years. Starting out with just a text editor, I learned HTML and then became familiar with JAVA script and now FLASH. I now use Dreamweaver and other modern website design packages. My background in computer art has stood me in good stead to create a variety of websites both informal and corporate.
