Ian Healy's work delivered thru the mediums of paint and drawing use the portrait, still life objects and the landscape, combined with the pictorial potential of everyday imagery to explore the space between seen reality and the illusion of the represented image; while also being a dilution of the meaning of the material on which they are based. The work is equally about the medium itself in certain works. All the work is executed after existing images, they are representations of representations. The subject matter is recreated as convenient metaphors for various issues; he paints about ‘Good & Evil’, disposability, repetition, myth, history, form and the mass media. These elements of the pictorial and the allusion to metaphor, represent the conceptual basis of all the work. With a base derived from an empirical rendering, all the work becomes interconnected.
