it all started with big bands, blues, 40s standards, billie and ella, gershwin, sublime, no doubt, janis, jim and jimi, classic rock standards, the beatles and all that classical music...gradually including: one ring zero, frank zappa, the grateful dead, ecclectic instruments, regina spektor, DJ Dangermouse, polyphonic spree, the cramps, DANZIG, GnR, Phish, Umphree's McGee!... to name only a few
newfound admiration for cheesy horror movies like cabin fever, movies that distract me from reality are fun--like the adventures of baron von munchousen, and harry potter flicks, and the LOTR shiiit, movies that make me laugh like napoleon dynamite did the first time I saw it, stoner comedies know how to hit me right there, offbeat movies that say something, like eternal sunshine or everything is illuminated, HOWARD THE DUCK, THE LONG ROAD HOME, AMELIE, THE VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT,THE LIFE AQUATIC, fear and loathing in las vegas, muppet movies, old disney movies of my youth, OLD movies with movieSTARS in them like paul newman, elizabeth taylor, marilyn monroe, cary grant...AND! The Last Unicorn
Family Guy, The Simpsons, The Office are the best shows on TV. Adult Swim in general(Handbanana!)... Those other shows on Thursday nights on NBC are good...Love me some good Discovery Channel/National Geographic shows...especially ones about animals that could kill me, gets the blood pumping...
The Red Tent sticks out, as does early Anne Rice (ooooh sexy), historical biographies, and sooooooo many more...spent a lot of time reading volumes of plays and essays, so not so many books as of late (shame on me)........ just read Margaret Atwood's The Robber Bride, that was AMAZING. CURRENTLY reading: Liz Gilbert's EAT PRAY LOVE....
My Bette, My Mamaw... je te manques, maman, toujours...
