D.I.Y.: Do It Yourself. No, we’re not talking about remodeling your bathroom or rebuilding the engine in that old muscle car that’s been parked in your garage for 20 years. We’re talking about music. The Broken Strings has taken the musical belief of D.I.Y. to its greatest extreme. While some bands may opt to enter a studio to record their music or hire an agent to book their shows, The Broken Strings choose to just do it themselves. The band recorded, produced, mastered, and designed their first EP. It has been a philosophy that has paid off well for the band so far.
The Broken Strings came into existence in Charlotte, NC in early 2007. The band consists of individuals who share a love for creating art. While the individual members have much in common when it comes to musical influences, they are also dissimilar enough to allow the band to become a dynamic entity that sounds unique in its own right. In other words, the sound of The Broken Strings may somewhat remind you of other bands but you definitely won’t mistake them for another band.
In keeping with their D.I.Y. ethics, the band members decided to record the album themselves. They bought some recording equipment and converted their garage into a professional music studio. After several months of recording, the band had 6 songs that they felt were of the highest quality. The Broken Strings proceeded to master the tracks and design the album layout. With the album complete, the band is now booking more shows throughout the Southeast to promote it. Sure, they have gotten offers for outside help but the members are content for the moment in doing this D.I.Y. It has worked well for them so far.
The Broken Strings feel they have a sound that can appeal to the masses. They’re not too bluesy for the rock kids but not too heavy for the blues kids. All the while, they play with an intensity that attracts the indie, punk and metal-heads.
