Hannah Phillips grew up in the Highlands and developed a love of traditional music at an early age. She began learning the clarsach with Heather Yule, with whom she studied for many years. An interest in classical music later inspired Hannah to take up the pedal harp. In 2005 she began studies on both instruments at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Her teachers here have included Karen Vaughan, Catriona McKay, Corrina Hewat, Savourna Stevenson, Wendy Stewart and Patsy Seddon. She has participated in masterclasses with Carrol McLaughlin, Edward Witsenburg, Natalia Shameyva and Isabelle Moretti.Hannah enjoys performing both solo and chamber music. She currently plays with flautist Lucy Driver. The pair have a fresh and dynamic approach to music making, incorporating music from many different styles and eras into their programmes.Future plans include a return visit to Inverness for a lunchtime recital and work on a new piece to incorporate pedal harp and clarsach by the Scots composer Eddie McGuire for performance at the Year of Homecoming 2009 celebrations.
