Long after she leaves the stage, the incredible talent of KK Alese continues to resonate with audiences both young and old. Born to a Jamaican father and Caymanian mother, KK Alese expresses her appreciation for various musical genres by fusing reggae with elements of jazz, R&B, hip-hop, gospel and blues to produce her own unique soulful sound. KK Alese's vocal styling is a throwback to the great soul divas of yesteryear combined with influences from some of today's favourite contemporary artists including Anita Baker, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Jimmy Cliff, Jill Scott and Angie Stone.
KK Alese's performing history began in the church when she was a young child. Over the years she has developed into one of Cayman's most respected singers through her membership in well loved groups. In 1999 she joined contemporary jazz group MoDanJaz as a vocalist. That same year the group released a collection of Christmas favorites titled, "It's Christmas", which sold quickly throughout Cayman. Later, in 2002, KK Alese became one of the founding members and the lead vocalist for AfterDark, a contemporary jazz ensemble that rocketed in popularity across the Cayman Islands. The group went on to open for several internationally acclaimed artists including Freddie Jackson, Keith Sweat, Floetry, and Faith Evans, among others.
KK Alese made her solo debut at the 2005 Cayman Islands Jazz Fest. And true to her appreciation and love of performing, KK Alese held her own among her internationally known counterparts by delivering a show-stopping bring-the-house-down performance, which has led to increased demand for her art in the Cayman Islands and the Caribbean. From then on, she has opened for headliners such as Brian McKnight, Chaka Khan, Ziggy Marley, Freddy Jackson, Natalie Cole, Roberta Flack, Maxi Priest, and many others.
Currently KK Alese is completing work on her first solo album of original music which has led to collaborations with Grammy award winners from the Caribbean and the United States, including Bounty Killa and Beenie Man. As a daughter of the Caribbean, KK Alese's upcoming release is rooted in her region's rhythms and borrows from other musical genres to create a sound that is unequivocally KK Alese. The raw emotions of each track provide direct access to the heart and soul of one of the Caribbean's most promising stars in the making. Her debut album entitled "Unexpected" is set to be released in November 2008. Her hit single "Move" is number 2 on the Reggae Television charts, as well as number 20 on the Reggae/ Dancehall charts. This is just the beginning!!!
KK Alese. No doubt you will hear the voice and the name again and again.
