About Me
Quante’, better known as Mr. R&B, was born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised all over the metro area. As hip-hop was growing into the entity it is today, R&B and Soul music was still a factor in his life. As a young child, growing up in the streets of Baltimore was indeed a challenge. Mr. R&B found several ways to channel the negative stigma of the “Hood†through the usual activities of sports and play. The one thing that really stood out to Mr. R&B was music. His thirst and hunger to emulate the greats such as Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, The Temptations, and David Ruffin led him to being discovered by his late mother “Sallie†as being blessed with a voice from the Lord. Those words of praise and encouragement led to the beginning of his singing. He began first at church, then the high school choir, and eventually in the streets. Expression of ones creativity is what led Mr. R&B to become as passionate about becoming a serious artist.
After high school, Mr. R&B joined the U.S. Marine Corps to take on the challenge of being one of the “Few and Proudâ€. While on tour in Japan, a chance meeting with a music promoter from “Whut Entertainment†landed Mr. R&B a recording deal for the company as an artist. While still honoring his musical talents, he toured Okinawa, Japan and the mainland with local star “Eddie Kaneâ€. As Mr. R&B grew as an artist, he also finished his tour of duty with the Marine Corps. He received an honorable discharge and returned to Maryland for much needed “R&Râ€. He later joined the U.S. Army after a brief stint in which he was wounded in combat in Iraq, Mr. R&B was medically discharged.
Now home for good, he picked right up where he left off – looking for more opportunities to create a local and mainstream buzz. Performing at several venues in Baltimore and DC, Mr. R&B won a talent show hosted by Def Jam Records, Hip-Hop World, and Third Eye Multimedia. He was able to secure management from Third Eye Management. As one of their artists, Mr. R&B was selected to sign on with Def Jam Records. As in other business deals gone bad, the fine print on the paperwork was not up to par (not to mention the A&R who was shopping Mr. R&B to the label was terminated at Def Jam). Mr. R&B moved to Georgia looking to catch the sudden surge of the south’s movement of the music scene. After performing at several Savannah venues and recording songs with local stars on Savannahs’ own “Pure Pain Recordsâ€, Mr. R&B continued to search for a home with an official company. A meeting in 2002 with local artist “Reality ~ THE LIFE CHILDâ€, became a golden opportunity for Mr. R&B. Reality was in the process of building his own company and label, B’ OFFICIAL ENTERTAINMENT. After several collaborations with Reality, as well as time grinding on the streets, Mr. R&B signed the deal to become the first R&B artist with B’ Official Entertainment. With nothing but the pen, the pad, and hot tracks, Mr. R&B looks to Be Official every step of the way.made with the Cosmoedit Myspace Editor
