About Me

The Stevenage Lytton Players proudly present The Who's TOMMY at The Gordon Craig Theatre from 23rd to 26th May 2007. Pete Townshend’s tale of a young boy’s journey from pain to triumph is the most electrifying evening of rock and roll ever to play in a theatre. As one critic referred to it, "…one of the greatest collections of songs in the history of rock."The rock opera Tommy has been an integral part of pop culture since 1969. Over the years an orchestra version was created, a film by Ken Russell and now a musical version. The storyline follows a young boy, Tommy, born after his father enlists in the war. After being presumed dead, the father returns and young Tommy is witness to a fight that ends with his father shooting his mother's lover. As a result, the traumatised child becomes deaf, blind and mute. All efforts to find a cure are dead-ended until Tommy's uncanny ability to play the pinball machines reactivates his senses and results in guru-like notoriety from which those who added to his misery try to profit.A smash-hit on Broadway and in London’s west end, The exhilarating score is timeless… an unforgettable, high-energy theatrical experience, featuring hit songs including "Pinball Wizard", "See me, Touch me", “I’m Free” and “I’m A Sensation.”Music and lyrics by Pete Townshend Book by Pete Townshend and Des Mcanuff Additional lyrics by John Entwhistle and Keith MoonProduction Staff Director - Dave Slade Musical Director - Leigh Smith Choreographers - Louise Airey and Emma Lovelock Producer - Chris Hobbs Stage Manager - Mike ColebertPrincipal Cast Tommy - Steve Anderson Mrs Walker - Helen Dunlop Captain Walker - Richard Evans Uncle Ernie - John Dunleavy Gypsy - Sharon Curtis
