I remember writing my first song while riding my bicycle to the golf course when I was about 10 or 11 years old. I was on my way for another day of work as a golf caddie. The song was called "Moons and Bicycles" and I figured it could surely have been a big hit for The Beatles. ...I was probably right. I think almost any song could have been a big hit by the Beatles. ...Anyway, that was a long, long time ago.
I was born and raised in the city of Toledo, Ohio. I started working when I was 10 years old. I started my first business when I was 11 years old - selling golf balls that I'd found while caddying at the country club next to the pond at the third hole of the public course. We had six kids in our family and I learned a lot from my brothers (4) and sister. We never had a lot of money, but we surely had a lot of love.
Over the years I've made a lot of money doing a variety things. I've been very fortunate at times and, I suppose, I missed out on some opportunities too. Rarely though have I failed to take a chance.
A lot of who I am was shaped by those humble beginnings that I shared with my siblings and neighborhood friends. ...I think that losses in life have created the depth of my being though.
Loss of loved ones, loss of love, loss of innocence, loss of money, loss of time...
Loss made me move to Tennessee from Ohio. Loss made me move to Alabama from Tennessee.
So, here I am - an Ohio boy living in Bama. Writing songs about what I know, what tickles me, what inspires me and whatever else I can sink my mind's teeth into...
