Born on the beautiful island of Antigua – land of 365 beaches in the year of the snake-1965,I am Eustace Samuel, owner and chief engineer of 108 Recording Studio, located on All Saints Road, St. John’s. I was exposed to music at a very early age as I always enjoyed listening to my grandfather play the accordion at home for the family’s amusement and for his own comfort. So, I came to acknowledge music as a soothing balm. My sole desire was to become a bass guitar player but due to the lack of continuous formal training, I soon left this wish behind in the clouds and came back down to earth. However, my predestined musical career was set. I soon followed my grandfather’s musical path and joined the Antigua and Barbuda National Majorettes Band as a drummer and a cymbal player. My first tour with the band was to St. Thomas USVI to compete in the regional majorettes’ competition. I was also exposed to big band music as a gofer for the Saints brass band who used to play back in the 70’s early 80’s all around Antigua. From there I grew to appreciate the music of such bands as Fabulous Antigua, Laviscount Brass, Rayne’s Brass Circle and Hammer International to name a few of the big names in the calypso/soca arena in Antigua.1985 was the year of change. This saw the birth of a new era of music in Antigua with the making of Burning Flames who changed the face of music not only in Antigua but in the entire Caribbean as well. I followed the growth of this band from inception and worked part time with them as a roadie until I became a full time member in September of 1991 within the same capacity and with continuous self advancement, I eventually became their sound engineer. In 1997, I took a two year sabbatical and attended the Trebas Institute of Music Technology where I obtained a diploma in Recording Arts and Science. After school, I returned to touring with the group until we parted ways in 2000. I then worked with Observer Radio from 2000 until 2005 as a technical operator. While at the radio station, I used to do single track recordings for local groups such as DNA, Relentless, Anything and other single artistes aspiring to record their one hit wonders. This inspired me to open my own studio to assist these artistes in producing professional recordings to enable them to compete within the wider music world. Having spent time in studios such as West Tracks and Planet Studio in New York, I try to emulate the skills I have learnt from the top engineers/technicians of theses studios and to this end I spend my days in my studio working with different groups and artistes to enable them to produce the same high quality sounds..
