SUMMON THE DESTROYER

About Me

Midwest and death metal aren’t usually synonymous, especially when the aforementioned death metal is a pummeling maelstrom of chaos and intensity that you would expect from bands that emerged from the Florida, Bay area, New York, and east coast metal scenes of the late eighties and early nineties. Characterized by the heavily distorted down-tuned guitars, fiercely guttural vocals, and machine gun drumming, Summon the Destroyer is truly American Death Metal at its finest. If you’ve managed to sleep on this one, it’s definitely time to wake up and smell the bloodshed.
Hailing from the great city of Indianapolis, death metal quintet Summon the Destroyer formed in mid-2007 when guitarist Ryan Green’s former group disbanded leaving him with an unused arsenal of punishing riffs. Green then enlisted the help of long time friend and drummer Mike Grow, who he knew shared his passion for brutal death metal. Together the two of them began rehearsing and searching for additional members to complete the lineup. Their search led them to bassist Corey Clark. Clark helped solidify the lineup, completing the rhythm section and bringing an unrivaled energy and stage presence to the bands live show. The next addition would be that of guitarist Mike Morgan. Morgan has the chops of a seasoned veteran, bringing masterful solos, and a well needed balance and fresh outlook to the band’s writing process. The last edition to the band was that of long time friend and vocalist Nate Bracey.
The group would go on to play a handful of shows across the next year before undergoing a lineup change. In mid 2008 Founding member and guitarist Ryan left the band causing them to seek out a new axe slinger. They were fortunate enough to pick up friend and seasoned thrasher Josh Kappel. Shortly after Kappel joined the band they replaced original vocalist Nate Bracey with current vocalist/frontman Chris Durham. Kappel and Durham are definitely icing on the cake bringing a plethora of musical knowledge, ripping solos, and some good old fashioned shred. Not to mention Durham's ability to literally destroy a microphone. Seriously.
The final product is pure brutality. With a new full length CD in the works Summon the Destroyer is at the top of their game. What began as a couple of metal heads having a good time playing brutal music in a garage, turned into five of Indianapolis’ finest annihilating everything, and everyone in its path.
