About Me

Jared Libby is a multi-instrumentalist who performs regularly throughout Western Mass. as well as the rest of New England and sometimes farther. He plays guitar and sings lead vocals with Appalachian Still , based out of Northampton, MA, and also works with other area musicians, performing and doing session work on recording projects. In addition to his gig schedule, he teaches guitar, bass, banjo, and mandolin at the Got Chops Music Center in Greenfield, MA.
At the age of 14, Jared traded in his school-band clarinet for a guitar--this would prove a good decision. Over the next few years, he was in several incarnations of a garage band (the longest incarnation being "Off the Cuff"). Jared was also a member of the Yarmouth High School Jazz Band, winning District and State awards for Outstanding Musical Acheivement. Prior to graduation, and subsequent enrollment at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, he would receive the high school’s only music scholarship.Along the way, Libby began to pick up other instruments--mostly with strings and frets. Before long, his guitar was joined by basses, banjos, mandolins, ukuleles, and just about anything he could find.
During his time at Hampshire, Jared studied music composition, production, and performance--founding his own Indie record label, ’Top Floor Records’ out of his dorm room in 2001. During his college career, he recorded several CD’s of his own and worked with numerous friends on various recording projects.
Following graduation, Libby began performing at local coffee shops, farmers markets, and anywhere else he could find. After a couple of years of solo work (and another CD), Jared met Andrew Woodland and his brother Len Haggerty, and formed ’Appalachian Still’, gigging around New England playing a mix of old-time, folk and, bluegrass. He has also recently been performing with Diane "Banjo Queen" Sanabria. And keep an eye out on a warm, summer evening and you might just catch him pickin’ tunes on the street in Northampton.

Headed to Tennessee

Appalachian Still is headed south! After some last minute scrambling, I'm mostly ready to head to the airport bright and early tomorrow morning. In an airplane is one place I've not yet spent Easter, ...
