The Heirs

About Me

The Heirs (Austin, TX) have been playing music together since late 2005. The project began when Courtney and Earl (now married) began recording music in their kitchen on an 8-track recorder. They have received airplay on KOOP (Austin, TX), KUT (Austin, TX), KSCR (Los Angeles, CA), and KRTU (San Antonio, TX). Their sound is strikingly original -- desperate and vulnerable while energetic and hopeful. The music is generated with guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, glockenspiel, and boy/girl vocals.
Laurie Gallardo of KUT has this to say: "What I love most about The Heirs are their energetic melodies and those incredible vocals. What I love even more is the way this band produces its gorgeous sound live. That is the way to truly experience The Heirs. The energy is simply astounding."
Bankruptcy is a Ten Year Mistake was self-released in October 2007. It's a "well-paced introduction to The Heirs' likeable fuzz pop" (Jon Rooney, The Daily Copper). Waterloo Records (Austin, TX) says, "With their debut EP, Austin's The Heirs have created a sound described as a successful blend that ranges from indie rock to fuzz pop. Bankruptcy is a Ten Year Mistake showcases The Heirs' commitment to sweeping vocal melodies, crunching guitars, and deliberate piano."
The band consists of four members: Earl Vallery, Courtney Hans, Jacob Cuthbertson, and Stephen Smith. Earl, guitarist/vox, is also drummer/occasional keyboardist for Austin-based band The Lovely Sparrows.
