About Me

Gregory W. Vernon, born and reared in Louisiana, came from a musical family that encompassed musical talents from the grandmother to the grandchildren. Gregory’s family is steeped in the traditions of gospel and soul. He began his musical career when he was in the 9th grade in which he had his very first solo performance. Coined as the “Luther Vandross of gospel music” he has been proclaimed to destined to be one of the great contemporary/gospel music phenomena’s of his time. Gregorys’ songs and emotionally charged ballads carry a signature sound. His life-changing moment came when he heard Luther Vandross sing “The Impossible Dream" and Jennifer Holliday sing “Giving Up” (songs he would one day hope to record). Gregory has been and continues to be inspired by such great musical influences as Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross, Gladys Knight,The Winans, Aretha Franklin, Peabo Bryson, Donnie McClurkin, Fred Hammond, Daryl Coley, Jennifer Holiday, James Ingram, Kim Burrell, Kurt Carr, Bishop Paul S. Morton, Tremaine Hawkins, Vickie Winans, The Clark Sisters, Donald Lawrence and his mother, Eleanor.Gregory never actually knew what gifts he had until he gave his life to the Lord and from thence, the real true meaning of what GOD and HIS purpose HE had for Gregory’s life was and is to be. He believes that if he can help somebody along the way, then his living shall not be in vain. "I was Gregory from day one, from the day I began, and I think that's a very important thing," "I think that's what has helped sustained my career and in my ministry for so long is that when I start, you know it's me." He once said. Gregory attended the public school system in Louisiana and also became a two time graduate of Southern University A & M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with degrees in Psychology (B.S.) and Mental Health Counseling (M.A.). He also became a life member of the PSI CHI National Honor Society in Psychology. He was also instrumental in orchestrating the society to being an active fraternity on Southern's campus. He was akso very active with the student government association. Furthermore, Gregory furthered his education by attending Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana in areas of Behavioral Studies and Special Education. Presently, he is pursuing a Doctorial Degree in Special Education. During his tenure at Southern University, Gregory has performed with the world renowned composer/conductor Dr. Isaac Gregg’s and his stage/concert band, some theatrical/musical plays such as “Tambourines to Glory” by Langston Hughes, and other events and galas sponsored by the university. He also has performed with various groups and ensembles within the area and other solo ventures within the U.S.At an early age, Gregory was reared in the Methodist Faith but later began attending The Greater Community C.O.G.I.C Church in Amite, LA, Superintendent, Daniel Muse, Sr., pastor where he is an active member as well as active in the music ministry and various musical ministries. Gregory is anticipating his first recording/cd titled “Feel My Soul” expected released this fall. Gregory’s purpose in life is to spread the name and the love of JESUS throughout the land. Gregory accredits the lyrics of his music to his life’s experiences. His title track “I Owe It All to Thee” is a compliation of what his life, joys, disappointments, hopes, and dreams are all about. The title of the cd “Feel My Soul” personafies the impact that God has had on his life. As God has “filled” my soul, I now have the opportunity and gift to allow others to “feel” my soul. His motto is “Quality Life, Prosperity and Education, by any means necessary!!!”
