About Me
Wilk Diamond is an up & coming, versatile artist who displays the confident impression of a young man destine for success. Born & raised out of the West Side of Philadelphia, PA, music first became Wilk’s fascination at the tender age of 8. Hearing the soulful sounds of legendary musicians such as Marvin Gaye & Al green seeping through the basement door where his father use to throw little get togethers, Wilk found himself attracted & later obsessed to the pleasure that music brought to him and how it had the power to influence an individual’s mood, thoughts, or motivation. However, it wouldn’t be until the age of 16 when Wilk would entertain the thought of actually creating his own music.
“When I was in high school me and two of my homies use to freestyle and go bar for bar all the time. After a while we came up with something called “The Bibleâ€. It was a black & white marble notebook where we use to write down our rhymes. During the change of classes we use to hand the book off to each other so each person could see what the other wrote & comment. We use to do battles and all that. After a while my homie Raffi use to be like. (“Yo, spit what you wrote right here for me. I gotta hear how you delivered that. Ya lyrics are crazyâ€). That is when I really began spittin’ out loud and in ciphers’ and all that.â€
With his original dream of playing professional basketball coming to a halt, Wilk began to take more interest into the art of making music. In 2001 he recorded tracks from time to time with some underground artist, but was still a bit optimistic about taking music 100% seriously. Companions surrounding Wilk continuously embedded in his head that he, without a doubt, had the talent to turn music into a possible career; however hard work and determination isn’t something people are born with so Wilk already knew it wouldn’t be an overnight success. “Around that time I was kind of falling into a world of sin. Music was something I already knew I wanted to do, but it wasn’t a priority†In 2005 Wilk linked up with a producer from D.C. while he was out Baltimore attending Morgan State University. They kicked it off right away and began to collectively create music. After recording an array of tracks, Wilk and the producer decided to release a Project. The low budget mixtape was entitled “Living a Movieâ€. The project would be a test run for Wilk to see he could grab the ears of the listeners and gain the respect as a Hip Hop artist.
“That project was strictly for my ni**as. They were the reason I took that next step into taking rap seriously so I just put it out there so people could get a sample of what was to comeâ€
About the time 2006 rolled around Wilk was consistently back & forth between Philly, Baltimore, and New York. When asked why he was traveling up and down I-95 so frequently, Wilk responded with a simple answer “Making Movesâ€. While making moves, not involving music, he ran into a fellow Philly native by the name of Wook. He too was an artist trying to make things happen with his music and was in the mist of releasing his first mixtape as well. The two linked up and instantly clicked. They began making high quality street music and in turn began a movement know as “Murda Maphia†(using the word Murda in the since of slaying or crushing any beat put in front of them). In 2007 they came out with a classical mixtape self entitled “Murda Maphia Vol.1â€. Establishing a pleasant buzz in the streets and the underground world of Hip Hop, Wilk Diamond & Wook Raw are now ready to attract the ears & eyes of the industry by getting prepared to release the sequel to their last project. But before that is done Wilk Diamond has some unfinished business to attend.
“We showed people that we can easily rock out in da booth, shows, interviews, etc. as a duo. Know it’s time to demonstrate to people that we can also hold are own.†Wilk Diamond’s is now set to release his debut project intitled “Who Am I? Vol.1†in the Fall of 2008.
