Denise BrennanDenise is the youngest of seven and has been singing since the age of six.Her love of singing, acting and performing was practically instant from birth, with many remarking that if she could sing all day long, Denise would do just that.At the age of 13, Denise was picked to play the leading role of Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz’, with St Mary’s College in her hometown of Arklow. After playing parts in ‘Brigadoon’, ‘Oliver’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ with the Avonmore Musical Society, Denise joined Gorey Musical Society, where she took on leading roles as the long-suffering ‘Nancy’ in ‘Oliver’ and the eternally misunderstood ‘Mary Magdalene’ in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’ She has also starred in productions of ‘Oklahoma’, where she played Laurie and in ‘Guys and Dolls’ where she played the strong but strict Sarah Browne with the Enniscorthy Musical Society.During her time in St Mary’s College, Denise trained with the wonderful Sr. Agnes Celcilia who put her through her paces with singing grades and competitions. From there, she attended the Leinster School of Music where she worked under the expert tuition of Dr. Veronica Dunne and acclaimed repetitore Jenny Reddin where she built up her repitoire in Classical and Irish music.At age of 19 Denise was delighted to land a part in ‘Riverdance – The Show’, touring throughout America and Canada, an experience she describes as one of the best, if not ‘the’ best, of her life. During this time she sang, by special request for Bill Whelan resulting in her being offered work as a Riverdance soloist in Baltimore.On the Riverdance Tour, Denise worked with international musicians and singers such as David Downes, now Musical Director of ‘Celtic Women’ and Darren Holden, Star of Billy Joels’ Broadway Show, ‘Movin’ Out’. Denise also worked with various international vocal coaches throughout her time with Riverdance. When Ireland hosted the 2003 Special Olympic Games, Denise was one of the singers chosen to perform in the opening ceremony at Croke Park, a memory that is very dear to her.Denise has also sung for thousands at the renowned Bunratty Castle, performing some of her all-time favourites like ‘Danny Boy’, ‘Castle of Dromore’ and ‘I Know where I’m Going’. And she certainly does.Denise has a passion for singing all kinds of music particularly Irish ballads, Crossover, Classical favourites and Musical Theatre. However she is as equally at home song writing, singing and performing original material.As well as working as a song-writer and performer, Denise is also Musical Director for Innovations Theatre Schools Gorey and Avoca, and a vocal instructor at the Wexford School of Music.Her influences run wide from Chris De Burgh to Kate Bush to Katie Melua.Also, an friend and mentor is the ever-popular Christy Hennessy whom she has performed with, their favourite song to do together being, ‘If You Were To Fall’, a song which she has recorded for her album, ‘Sailing With The Wind.’Produced by singer-songwriters Marc Roberts and Eugene Kelly “Sailing with the wind†showcases a mix of contemporary and celtic styles with favourite songs of well known artists and original songs.
