About Me
Hello my name is Omar, I care of a victim of Alzheimer's. Her name is Mary. She also happens to be my aunt. I was raised by Mary after my mom died when I was nine years old, therefore Mary is much more than an aunt to me, she's like a mother. Mary never married and never had children of her own. I'm sure that raising me must have been a very trying time for her filled with it's up's and down's, good times and moments that were not so good.
Now twenty some odd years later the tables have turned. I too, find myself a lot like Mary did all those years ago, I'm single, no children but with a little girl to take care of. That little girl is Mary. Yes, a once vibrant, tough and independent lady, now reduced to a fragile, innocent and vulnerable being by a dreaded disease called Alzheimer's.Never could I have ever imagined that I would spend the prime of my life tied up in taking care of a victim of Alzheimer's. In the loneliness, guilt, desperation, and sleepless nights, sometimes my faith would hit rock bottom.I gave up many dreams to become a fulltime caregiver, including a career in music. Still, I realized that I must be living the sweetest dream come true because nothing else can compare to all the things I have learned while caring for Mary. When my life is done, I will be able to look back and remember with so much love how amazing and fulfilling it was to have been given the opportunity to take care of that sweet little old lady.I put up this site as a base or a foundation where I can lay down my burdens and triumphs and share them with people out there just like me. Please consider this place your home away from home.The labor of love on this site is dedicated to you, the patient and caregiver.
