C. jay aka. Chris Josephs was born May 28th in Scarborough General Hospital in Morningside. Growing up Chris attained a loving interest in music
& at a very young age he started writing pages full of poetry, song lyrics and learned musical instruments such as the saxophone. He drew inspiration from his musically inclined family but mostly in his uncles who have played a big role in the growth of Canadian music & it's industry.
His deep lyrics, rough poetic flow & never heard before style that's developed over the past many years has been influenced by some of the greatest hip hop artists of all time including Jay-Z & lost but never forgotten legends such as Tupac Shakur, Christopher "B.I.G" Wallace & Big L.
In 1999, Chris moved east from the Borough to Whitby & soon became hungry to make an impact with his passion & dedication to music. Soon after moving he joined the well known hip hop group "SG" (straight grimey) at the young age of 17 & began writing over instrumentals created by one of the best beat makers in Canada, producer Boi 1da. While writing & practicing almost everyday he developed his profound lyrical ability competing in local freestyle battles & continued to see the light of his path he was chosen to pursue.
An opportunity like no other came into Chris's hands when he met with BMG Producer Kenny "Krush" who was impressed and encouraged him to keep writing & to keep focusing on what he loves to do. Beginning to take music more seriously, he joined the "Press Play Lifestyle Group" and formulated a game plan to garner guaranteed success.
The Group of 5 consists of two other rappers, his brother Brelynd "Bre" Josephs, Kevin "K Flo" Duhaney & two other RnB artists Emerson "Just" Brooks & Jonathan "Jmore" Wilson. C. jay is currently working on completing the Press Play Lifestyle Group mix tape while also writing & recording towards his debut album, developing a clothing line & working on other personal venues.
