About Me

I decided to become more mysterious.

Somehow, this is me...

"In the end, all of us have something broken, some aspect of our lives that can't be mended or put back together... On some people it doesn't show. In today's times the less broken have to take care of the more broken." --Jon Diamond, Narrative Means to Sober Ends, p.98.

"Sometimes you love, you learn, and then you move on, and that's ok." --Dave's mom, played by Meryl Streep in Prime

"There's nothing more real than a mirage." --Mr. Stetson (or something like that), Nine Lives

"Love can beat any old addiction, baby. Hell, it is one." --Madea, Diary of a Mad black Woman

"The most effective way to do it, is to do it." --Amelia Earhart

"Every person born into the world represents something new, something that never existed before, something original and unique....If there had been someone like her in the world, there would have been no need for her to be born." --Martin Buber as quoted in Narrative Means for Sober Ends, by Jon Diamond, p.78.

My latest favorite secret from postsecret.com:

Music:

Seriously - all kinds. Lately, whatever's on the radio. Next week it could be country, hip hop, oldies, jazz, punk, oi, classical, or christian - although we're still not speaking to each other. My last Christian music kick resulted in the voluntary loss of my entire other-genre CD collection.

Movies:

Psychological Mystery/Thriller types:
Memento, Derailed
Movies that make you feel like you've experienced or at least gain a better understanding of and appreciation for something new and different:
Beautiful Mind, I am Sam, Secretary, Requiem for a Dream, Monster, Trainspotting, Memento, Million Dollar Baby, Sherrybaby
Political/Cultural/Historical themes:
Hotel Rwanda, The Constant Gardener, Kinsey, Pleasantville
Questioning Reality: Beautiful Mind, Adaptation (I can't even begin to say how good this movie is - I could watch it a million times and talk about it for hours after every time), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Memento, Fight Club, Before Sunset (yes, I meant to put this movie in this category)
And what girl's list wouldn't be complete without love stories:
Casablanca, Untamed Heart, Secretary, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Love Actually, Closer, Walk the Line, Before Sunset.
Ok, I'm breaking down and adding comedy: Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang; Zoolander, Little Miss Sunshine
Childhood favorites: School House Rock, Hairspray, Crybaby, La Bamba, Mannequin
Yes, I know I listed some movies in more than one category, and that's because I love them for more than one reason. Those categories are generally all-inclusive of the kinds of movies I like.
Last saw: Nothing lately. Someone take me to the movies.
Currently wanting to see: I think I've finally had enough of Melanie-go-and-fix-the-world movies. I just want movies about laughing and love.

Television:

I hardly watch TV anymore. However when I do watch I love 24, Grey's Anatomy, The Colbert Report, House, Saturday Night Live, Conan O'Brian, and the occasional American Idol/Top Model/Dancing with your Mother type show.

Books:

A Clockwork Orange, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Cider House Rules, Nickel and Dimed, Narcotics Anonymous, Boys Like Us, Kingdom Coming, Wasted, Desterrados, The Kite Runner

Last read: I swear I cannot finish a book lately. Currently reading: Nada.On my to be read list: too many to list. I now have a whole book shelf full of books I've bought in the hopes that I'll have time to read them someday.

Heroes:

I have three answers that are all equally true:

Pretty much everyone is a hero to me in some way.

We don't have to be heroes.

I am my own hero.

My Blog

To you or to no one, whichever.

I have been thinking of you lately, of wanting to meet with you, of wanting to talk about what went wrong. Not to accuse, but to explore. Not necessarily to fix, but to prevent. I have thought long an...
