About Me

Alice began playing the Violin at the age of three and has grown up passionately wanting to be a professional musician. From an early age she began playing with many orchestras around Kent, including the Kent County Chamber Orchestra as principle 2nd and the Kent County Youth Orchestra for seven years becoming its co-leader in 2007. She worked with professional conductors such as Peter Stark, Brian Wright and Guillermo Scarabino. She has played with local orchestras such as Maidstone Symphony Orchestra playing with Chloe Hanslip and Guy Johnston, Oare String Orchestra working with British composer John McCabe, and South Kent Youth Orchestra playing with Freddy Kempf. She led this orchestra in her last year then returned to perform Mozart's A Major Violin Concerto in 2005. Since 2006 Alice has been the co-leader of Manchester Baroque Orchestra regularly performing on period instruments at Manchester Cathedral.
Alice completed a Music Degree with a high 2:1 at the University of Manchester in 2008, receiving high firsts for composition and solo performance following studies with Julia Hanson. Whilst at University she played an active role with the new music ensemble, leading the group on several occasions, and was principle 2nd of the University Baroque Ensemble. Alice is now studying as a postgraduate student at the Royal Northern College of Music with Steve Wilkie. She has lead the RNCM concert orchestra, was principle 2nd of the Chamber Orchestra and co-leader of another of the college's concert orchestras. She has recently toured with the London Metropolitan Orchestra and Mercury Award nominees The Last Shadow Puppets performing in venues across the North of England, including the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall as part of the live broadcasted BBC Electric Proms. She has also performed with Northern Sinfonia with Katherine Jenkins in Newcastle City Hall and has work later on this term with Opera North. In February she will play as part of a small ensemble from the RNCM for the Tim Garland Lighthouse Trio.
Apart from Violin, Alice is also a percussionist and studied with the principle percussionist of the BBC Philharmonic, Paul Patrick. She was also an active composer whilst studying at university, having 2 pieces premiered by the University's New Music Ensemble, and achieved high Firsts for all units of composition. At school she had a quartet compositions premiered by an LSO quartet which was then performed at a Student workshop at the St. Lukes Centre, London.
As a drummer Alice has toured with a local Jazz Big Band to Italy, France and Spain and has had some guidence and teaching from Wynton Marsalis' Drummer Ali Jackson who drums with the Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra.
