Celebrity Hair Stylist Garren opened the doors to his thoroughly modern, elegant and intimate 2,000 square foot salon in the Atrium of New York’s landmark Sherry-Netherland Hotel, located at 781 Fifth Avenue at 59th Street.Redefining Garren’s signature look of timeless elegance in a thoroughly modern way, the new GARREN New York salon was designed in collaboration with renowned architect and designer, Christopher Barriscale. Garren and Barriscale worked together seamlessly to transform Garren’s vision into reality.With its floors and counters of silver travertine stone custom fabricated in Italy, Rosewood cabinetry, walls of white, hand waxed plaster and sculptured white lacquered wood, the salon is articulated into a sequence of intimate spaces. Floor-to-ceiling, custom crafted screens in burnished bronze, designed by Barriscale add an unexpected element of drama, movement and surprise.For the main styling salon, Garren commissioned Italian crystal maker Vistosi’s Angelo Mangiarotti to create a shimmering focal wall of dangling, interlocking crystals. Illuminated with direct and indirect lighting, the crystal curtain creates the illusion of infinite space which is further enhanced by the rooms floor to ceiling mirrors and frosted glass “light columns.”Accent colors of lime, orange, shrimp, frog green and soft metallics appear in the furniture, textiles and finishing touches. From Garren’s signature green roses, to the orange mohair Vladmir Kagan sofa, to sumptuous drapes of cashmere and golden metal mesh.Honing his lighting skills from decades of work alongside world-leading photographers Steven Meisel, Irving Penn, Michael Thompson and Steven Klein, Garren collaborated with Barriscale and lighting designer Keith Kosiba to develop the salon’s signature, flattering, luminous white lighting, dramatically highlighted with an illuminated stretched fabric ceiling.The salon robes were designed by long time friend and fashion designer Anna Sui. A true reflection of Garren’s forever evolving, trendsetting aesthetic, the new GARREN New York salon was designed to cater to his exclusive client roster, which includes magazine editors, leading photographers, designers, celebrities, supermodels and socialites. “My new salon at The Sherry-Netherland is designed to provide our clients with the ultimate in comfort, privacy, luxury and convenience,”says Garren.The new GARREN New York Salon at The Sherry-Netherland serves as a creative lab for Garren’s team of expert stylists and as a showcase for his namesake product collection. The GARREN New York Hair Care Collection, which features 11 delicate, performance-based products with vitamins, proteins and natural plant extracts to cleanse, condition, style and fragrance the hair, is available exclusively at the new salon.
