D.O.A. Studios A Brief History
..D.O.A. Studios A Brief History
D.O.A. was opened in October 2003 by Don McColl and Andy Dawson. D.O.A. was born out of the ashes of Ionian Studios, which had just moved premises to Wordsworth Trading Estate. Due to circumstances out of their control Ionian closed earlier that year. With all the hard work and effort that had gone into the relocation of the studios, Don and Andy agreed that it would be a waste to let all that hard work fall by the wayside and they set out to find a way to keep the studios alive.
With the help and support of the old Ionian team, Graham (Optimum Business Solutions), friends and family the rehearsal room doors were open once more to the public.
After a few weeks word of mouth had started to run its natural course and many bands who had been Ionian regulars were returning to rehearse at D.O.A.
Since then D.O.A has become a community of bands closely linked with the Bolton Music Collective.
D.O.A has been involved in some way with most of the new music events that have been springing up in the town in recent years.
Andy D is one of the most respected live sound engineers in the area having worked closely with the BMC and many of Bolton's promoters.
Should you be in need of a good sound engineer please get in touch.
He has worked with the following artists amongst many others:
Rancid, G.B.H, UK Subs, 999, T.V. Smith, Boy Kill Boy, Little Man Tate, North Side, Mohair, Art Brut, Jon Gomm, Send More Paramedics and Hella, to name a few
As well as being a Sound man Andy D is also a seasoned drummer and over the years has played all over the world with many people including:
Billyclub- Hardcore punk whose members have a deep history in punk and have played in bands such as The Exploited, Uk Subs Broken Bones, G.B.H and many other top punk bands.
Andrea Glass and The Last Waltz.
Islands Lost At Sea
Pancho Ballard and the Banditos who supported Dave Spikey on his UK Tour.
Fast Cars- power punk band from the early 80’s
Andy D has a wide knowledge of music and playing styles and when it comes down to pure feel and grove few come close. Andy is available for session work.
Don Mccoll left D.O.A in October 2008 to pursue other interests and was replaced by local hero Andy Hodgson.
Andy H was born in the 16th century on a battlefield just outside Paris. Ate cake and enjoyed it.
He fits in perfectly at D.O.A
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 6' 5"
Reach: 11km
He plays guitars, basses and stuff in various bands.
He also has a very relaxed attitude to danger. Andy H once hugged Danny from Mcfly whilst dressed as a Lion.
He also kneed a toddler in the face whilst dressed as a lion. He is proud of both equally.
Andy H also builds and repairs musical instruments.
Many of his builds are complete one-off 'unusual' stringed instruments.
If you have any questions about a custom bass/guitar/banjo/mandolin/ukulele or if you want one instrument that incorporates all of these into one mad Frankenstein. I’m sure Mr Hodgson would be more than happy to indulge you...
