About Me

SubAtomic is an ELECTRONIC FUSION QUINTET, hailing from Portland, Oregon. Our sonic style evoled through improvising and experimentation with our creative ideas. Deryk Dement plays drums, everything from tasty mellow jazz to heavy duty breakbeat that will make you shake your ass. DD has played with DJ Disk and Tricky and pushes the envelope of modern groove. Dave Binnig plays trumpet into effects pedals creating on-the-fly loops that weave a smooth ambient texture and will carry you through space and time. Brooks Foster is the newest player, with real jazz chops and an arsenal of saxophones. SubAtomic is taking a non-traditional approach to danceable music, fusing styles and crossing genre boundaries while maintaining a groove that will keep your head bobbing and your feet moving.
SubAtomic took form in March of 2007 and started gigging right away with a debut show in Portland’s own living-room, the Goodfoot Lounge. SubAtomic fans have accumulated over the last year, as they have played to large outdoor crowds at both Pearl district and Alberta Street Art-Walks, Portland Art Museum parties, festivals, art openings, clubs and lounges (Pi-Rem, Someday Lounge, Crown Room, Goodfoot, etc.). SubAtomic style attracts a broad spectrum of listener, from the jazzhead to the electronic crowd, downtempo fans to drum-n-bass-niks. SubAtomic subverts the boundaries of style, age, scene, and genre.
