A Three Sided Square began life in December 2005 when James and original drummer Paul began to talk about performing at the school xmas concert originally wanting to cover "basket case" by Green Day. They recruited Ben Goody on guitar and ended up performing their take on Slade’s "so here it is merry xmas" which went down incredibly well and the three carried on playing together under the name ‘sugar-free candyfloss’.In late January 2006 they got Chris on bass and vocals and James moved to rhythm guitar. We played their first real gig at a school benefit concert the week after and again went down very well despite the lack of practice with their newest member. This new addition saw the change of the name to arc-angel. Their first gig outside of school was at a club in chatham called bar m which is sadly no longer there. This gig however was supporting the band that are the now well established ‘underground heroes’.
They continued to play different venues around the medway area including at the sold out brook theatre in chatham, and even played out of a horse box at a primary school summer fete. However, in September of that year, arc-angel took to the stage at the casino rooms in Rochester in the medway metal fest in what would prove to be a costly error and marked the end of the arc-angel days.
We had no gigs for a period of about 6 months after.
2007 saw another name change (after a couple of other ideas) to cause a riot. A name that james had thought of whilst listning to the clash’s song ‘white riot’. They did their first gig under this name at gillinghams beacon court tavern in april.
This year also saw the band play various music venues around the medway towns and even playing a strip club in Ramsgate and their London debut in October at the storm club in Leicester square.
December 2007 brought a huge change to the bands line up with the introduction of their new lead singer, Sirisha who adds a new level of diversity to the band. our first gig with her was at the red lion in Gravesend in which they were joined onstage by Milton avenue for the final song in which a mosh pit broke out onstage!! This line up was going strong until about may, where we slowly started to grow apart. The fear of cause a riot splitting was a reality in September, when Ben left to join Milton Avenue which then prompted Paul to also leave to continue with other interests. As a result of all of this, James and Chris decided to start a new band outright. They got Joe (who had played with us at the Red Lion in May when Ben was unable to make it) and after months of looking for a drummer, and even begging people! The long wait was finally over, and well worth the wait, with the addition of Alex Wilson on drums in January. Since then, some old songs have been kept, some have been rewritten and others written from scratch. The future is looking bright so far. Hopefully this promising start will continue!
