Earthbound were born in the year of 2005, at the hands of Effrenus (Bass, Vocals, Programming) and Occultus (Guitars, Programming), under the name Frozen Crypt. The duo's main influences at the time were Norwegian Black Metal and Doom Metal, and their goal was to merge these two genres in their sound. As time went by, new tastes acquired and improved musicianship and music-writing skills, their sound and compositions started to divert to a more folk-oriented metal. Guitarist Tiago Cardoso joined the project, but soon left due to lack of time/will. Einherjar then took his place as rhythm guitarist and Frozen Crypt were renamed Earthbound, to reflect this new approach and style. Gonçalo Carvalo from The Chapter joined as drummer and Leanan Sidhe (ex-Mons Lunae, Lacrymae) joined the band to cover flute and vocals. Einherjer decided to leave the band on friendly terms, because of stylistic differences between him and the sound the band was carving. Effrenus then held the 6-string axe and Viriathus joined as the new band's bass player. As the end of 2007 came, Earthbound were in the mist and the project was put on ice, with little to no activity and most members disbanded, leaving only the initial duo in the band. In early/mid 2008, Effrenus (now Guitars, Bass, Programming) and Occultus (Guitar, Programming) resumed the composition of their first work, comprised of seven tracks, a semi-conceptual album tracing a parallel between day, night and life.
The band now pursues a folk-influenced sound with progressive elements and a black/death metal touch.
