HYPNOTIZED ME DRY: First this song was called Borderline. Then we started catching some slack for a Madonna song that used the word 'borderline' and even sort of sounded like the chorus? The lyrics changed and the song was never finished to make time to finish the songs that were used on Step Outside Yourself. Going into the recording of SOY, this was my NUMBER ONE pick for the album. We had a very strange democratic process in a boardroom with our manager and our label to determine which songs we would finish and put on the album and which songs were cut. They must have put something in our water... next time we'll take our time and release a 20 song album.
REVOLUTION: Looking back, I dont understand why this song was left off of Silverstrand. Someone said it didn't sonically fit with the rest of the album, but then all of our homies that heard this track before the album came out were very disappointed it was cut. It was recorded in 2004 with Mike Green and has never seen the light of day. This song didn't even make the cut as a bonus Japanese track. What the hell?
CAUGHT UP IN A RUNDOWN: This song almost never got a chance to see daylight. It's actually another of the nine unfinished step outside yourself bsides. Thanks to the radical over it fans that voted for us to win the MLB / playstation / warped tour contest, we got a chance to go into the studio again and do it justice. We recorded everything from scratch again with Cameron Webb and voila: a song that reminds us that baseball is life. A little known fact: the original chorus lyrics were "Holy Scoliosis... breaking my back into an S".
ANY DAY: It's sort of amazing this song was left off of silverstrand, but i suppose it was so we could showcase even newer material on silverstrand. The demo for this song was released on the takeover 3way before we hit the studio for Silverstrand. We played it live at almost every show in 2004. Our old booking agent once told us that this was our 'single'. This was 'the one'... and then it didn't even make the album. haha.
