Alan Ramos

Alan Ramos has a gift. Endowed with a beautiful voice, Alan has that stellar quality that separates him from many other romantic singers: with his voice he is able to touch the hearts of the audience as he shares with them a world of soulful experiences.
Alan’s special talent was already evident at a young age. In his native hometown of Tabasco, Mexico, Alan would perform Luis Miguel’s hits for an audience of relatives and playmates on a makeshift platform in the family’s backyard. Inspired by his desire to broaden his musical experience, a young Alan joined the local church choir. Soon he realized that the standardized method used in the choir did not meet his artistic expectations, so he left hopping to find other opportunities to express his talent.
Years later, and with a background in Administration, Tourism and Anthropology, Alan decided to leave his family and native Mexico in order to further his studies in the USA. His goal was to become financially independent and stable enough to help his parents and younger sister back home. Despite his dedication to the books, music was Alan’s undeniable passion.
After many years of unfruitful search and many disappointments, the doors opened up for him to pursue his dream. Winston-Salem, a historical town in North Carolina, hosted the Latin Idol contest in 2004. Alan won the contest in the category of Latino Pop music. This victory was the turning point in his musical career as his performance also caught the attention of Latin Melody Music, Co. This management company provided orientation, support and the opportunity to work on his first single, “Welcome to America”. This song, which also gives title to the full length CD album to be released in the summer of 2007, is a reflection of Alan’s experience as an immigrant.
It is unusual for an artist to release a first single with a political message, especially during a time where immigration issues are hotly debated. His intention for doing this is to give a voice to the many Hispanics that come into this country looking for an opportunity to lead a better life. Alan knows from experience that the words, “Welcome to America” are what the heart of an immigrant most long to hear. When asked about the political implications of his debut song, this is what Alan has to say:
“I am not a politician, but an artist and as an artist I sing about what touches my heart. It touches my heart to see people that risk everything to come here and are met with distrust; it touches my heart to see honest people that are looked upon with suspicion; it touches my heart to see that our labor is welcome but our hands are not.”
With his obvious caring nature and his talented voice, Alan is sure to become an inspiration to many, a true Latin Idol. His childhood makeshift platform will be replaced by real scenarios; his audience of friends and family will turn into a multitude of eager fans; his dream of becoming a renowned artist will become a reality. For as long as there are Hispanic immigrants in this country in need of a voice, Alan’s “Welcome to America!” song will continue to resonate.
