The Seneca Lake Wine Trail is a community of wineries organized near Seneca Lake, one of eleven lakes that make up the Finger Lakes Region located in New York State. The Finger Lakes unique geology and topography is what makes the area hospitable for grape growing. Seneca Lake is 632 feet (193 m) deep - the deepest of the Finger Lakes. During the winter months the water temperature of the lake rarely dips below the freezing mark. This, in turn, acts as a warming agent for the surrounding shores and hillsides. The water temperature radiates up the slopes sheltering the vineyards from the winter cold. In the spring, the cooler temperatures of the lake help to delay the bud break until the risk of all winter frost has passed. In reverse, after the hot summer months, the warm surface water temperatures helps to postpone the first frosts. This allows the grapes to hang on the vines and ripen. The picture associated with this account is of Paul Thomas, the current Executive Director of the Seneca Lake Wine Trail.
And hopefully below is our latest video featuring several winery owners and tasting room managers singing their hearts out on the final stanza of our parody song "The 12 Wine Days of Christmas"! It is a HOOT!

My Interests

The Seneca Lake Wine Trail is interested in, what else, wine! We are a consortium of wineries around Seneca Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region of Western New York State committed to the production of fine wines using grapes grown with the region.

I'd like to meet:

We would like to meet folks that appreciate great wines! Whether dry reds, sweet whites and everything in between.

Music:

We dig Virgil Cain (who will be performing at our 2008 Golden Nose Award event in May) and of course the unique song stylings of The Finger Lakes Weekend Wino!

Movies:

Obviously Sideways is THE movie for our industry. We at the Trail are still amazed at how dramatically this funky little film influenced sales of Merlot around the country: both when the film was initially released, as well as after the DVD release!

Television:

On The Vine, Wine and Food Show with Jennifer Montana TheWineryChannel.tv The Wine Makers

Books:

The following are some favored authors: Kevin Zraly, Tom Stevenson and Robert M. Parker. Just to name a few.

Heroes:

Dr. Frank, one of the legends of our wine producing region. Likewise, though not as awarded as Dr. Frank was, Walter Taylor (Bully Hill) was a truly fearless wildman from everything I've ever heard about him. Enormously creative man on numerous levels and a total character with the huevos to tackle Coca Cola Inc. at one point! Last, but by no means least, Gene Pierce, founder/owner of Glenora. Sure, some folks might think I'm brown-nosing here, since he is one of my bosses technically speaking, but the man is incredibly industrious, visionary, committed and was principally responsible for lighting the industry up here on Seneca Lake lo those many years ago.
