Presenting my new project for 2010: the Crescent Double Quartet:
My name is Aart van Bergen and I'm from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. My main instrument is the tenor saxophone and I love jazz music!
In 2007 I finished my Bachelor Musicology at the UvA with my thesis 'Freedom and Limits of Jazz Improvisation'. For this research I posed the question of how free and how limited the jazz improvisor is in his music. Also I wanted to know to what degree jazz is improvised music.
The last 4 years I've studied Jazz Saxophone at the Rotterdam Conservatory Codarts. I'll finish the Bachelor by playing a final concert in June 2010. For this occasion I've started a project called The Crescent Double Quartet: a jazz quartet and a string quartet merged into a beautiful and organic music group. We'll play my arrangements of my favorite John Coltrane compositions and some of our own pieces. Hope to show you this new project soon!
For playing traditional '40's and '50's jazz I play with guitarist Daniel Mathot and bass player Giorgos Galapoulo as a Jazz Trio. This formation has a nice cool atmosphere :) It works really good for relaxing situations. This band can be booked on this site: www.starlightjazztrio.nl

My project from 2008-2009: a sextet playing my own compositions:
More of the sextet; a very experimental blues.
