Micromutazioni opens in Naples in 1999. Since the beginning the idea we had in mind wasn’t only to create a functional and adequate structure, but to give this structure a clear identity, to open a window on the world of body art and create a melting pot of culture and experimentation. In November 2003 Micromutazioni opens up a new center in Via Broggia, in the heart of Naples between the National Museum and the Art Academy. It’s a three floor building: the first floor is completely dedicated to the sale of body jewellery. You will find yourself surrounded by a futuristic atmosphere, fruit of the hard work of the aerographer Enzo Oliviero. Antonio Acunzo, the piercer, and Gianni Cataldo, the tattooer, work in an extremely professional and aseptic way in their laboratory on the second floor, where you will also find a waiting room. The administrative office and the depot are on the third floor, but only personnel is allowed in.The planning and creation of the whole store has taken long months of hard work and dedication, in order to guarantee an efficient and functional result. The name Micromutazioni comes from the idea of mutation intended as change, where time plays fundamental part; human beings have altered their aspect since the origins of mankind, from the primitive societies to the “modern†society. Human appearance has not only to do with a biological result, but with cultural influence as well. Our body’s alterations are a unique way to give a representation of ourselves, they transmit our personal values, our beliefs, our approach to life. Our body is clay to be modelled, an endless canvas to be elaborated, it becomes the vehicle with which life is sensation or the lack of sensation, to reach higher levels of ecstasy. This is the game in its pure form, made by alterations and mutations on the skin, where a trace will be left, a trace that is not only a sign that time goes by, but that something really happened, an important event, something that is changing or it has already changed.Playing with our body, feeling the thickness of our skin through pain, that ,makes us feel alive.
