About Me

I hate shoes. Why, oh, why did I ever move back to the States? A clean floor is no substitute for the feel of beach grit between my toes. Costa Rica, I miss you like I miss Star Wars cereal.
I work from home. I write all day and wear Chanel No. 5 and never have to deal with office politics.
If I love you, I will make you a cake in the shape of a Game Cube (with controllers) and refinish your funiture in crazy colors. My living room is lime green. I play a bubblegum pink violin.
I am the oldest of seven children.
I have a husband with a music collection that boggles the mind. Three cats have taken over our apartment. Each week, they force me to volunteer at Second Chance, a local no-kill shelter for cats.
I wear custom, handmade tap shoes when I dance.
I am: - A wife. - A writer. - Awkward, socially. - Mannerly - Honest (I can't lie to save my life). - Impossibly neat and clean. - A Tauren druid (in WoW, duh). - Crazy for books. - Fussy about food. - Prone to fits of mania. - An animal lover. - In love with my Mr. Hotel.
I like: - Handbags. - Sleep. - Creating beauty. - Honey cakes. - Reading. - Spanish wines. - Weddings. - Cats. - Love.
I dislike: - Dress codes. - Office politics. - Commercials. - Judgmental people. - Any media that autoplays. Yes, that means songs on myspace. - Quite a lot of things, actually.

All of us. We are rich. Don't believe me?
We lead lifestyles previously reserved for sultans, emperors, and kings. We enjoy entertainment at a touch. Music. Theater. Literature. And magical moving pictures. We have access to exotic food from the four corners of the earth — as much as we want... more than is even good for us. The shelters we live in are safe, warm, dry, and have indoor plumbing. Hot water. We don't have to walk in knee high mud to get where we need to go. We have more possessions than we know what to do with... in fact we pay others to store them. Our possessions are largely well made and when quality is misrepresented, we have some redress. We have so much material wealth that it threatens the fabric of sustainable living. We are so wealthy, we wipe our behinds and litter our streets with paper... paper that 200 years ago was too expensive to even make into money. There is an expectation that our possessions are guarded or at least there is recourse available to us if our possessions are stolen. There are mechanisms besides our own wit and brawn to safeguard our liberty. Our work is, by and large, not constant back-breaking, crippling, hard physical labor. When it is, there is an expectation of compensation and safety that causes us to be horrified when we hear of people injured on the job.
These things, for the bulk of human civilized history were the exclusive domain of the aristocratic classes.

A little something about dance

Been thinking about Pam Teer a lot since I found out that she died a few years back. She was sort of an 'other mother' to me while I was growing up. Beantown Tapfest brought back a lot of memories of ...

Crazier and crazier

It's hard to keep a squirmy, angry cat from opening the giant wound on the tip of her tail. It just is - tails swing and hit stuff and piss their owners off. I went to the oral surgeon today. I can ho...

Shit. Blood. The end of days.

I dreamt last night that the rapture occurred and I was one of the ones taken by Jesus. We didn't, however, fly off the heaven as one might expect. Rather, we were taken to a coastal town where, for a...

Feline brain chemistry and its implications in my little world

Today I went to the vet for the second time in two days. Yesterday, I brought Mannix to the vet for his pink eye, his boosters, and microchipping. At the appointment, the vet showed me his gums, which...

eeeeeeeeeeeek!

Now, you'd think the fact that Clocky finally became available would be a Christmas miracle in and of itself. And, trust me, it is. I heart Clocky and will buy myself one in just about five minutes. I...
