BIOGRAPHY
In-your-face energy. Complex yet catchier than mono. A fusion of styles from all over the musical spectrum. Think Glassjaw and The Dillinger Escape Plan meets The Cure and Radiohead with hints of jazz, funk, and reggae, and a maniacal, promising live show. One thing's for sure - Raid For Blood Diamonds doesn't follow trends.
The band emerged from the urgent need for originality in the over-populated, increasingly generic hardcore punk scene. During the summer of 2006, the Toronto, Ontario natives stormed the local scene with a blistering new sound, presence, and attitude. The early incarnation featured Luc Ruggiero (guitars/vocals/composing), Will Skura (drums), Frank Gomez (frontman/vocals), and Brandon Kane (bass). Shortly after forming, the band released their first self-titled EP, instantly attracting attention from new fans, promoters, and media alike. Since then, they have played numerous high stature shows, including (acclaimed scene magazine) Truth Explosion’s 3rd year anniversary show at Toronto’s legendary Opera House in November 2006. With independently distributed CD sales across the globe (done through the band’s MySpace page), as well as a growing and loyal fan base, Raid For Blood Diamonds seemed invincible.
However, on June 15, 2007, the unthinkable happened. Frank Gomez, the maniac-with-a-microphone, was killed in an accident, drastically shocking the band, and fellow friends, family, and fans. The band quickly regrouped, channeling their loss, frustration and anger into what Luc describes as “the most intense, intricate, and heartfelt songs yet to be writtenâ€. With Luc’s lead vocal take-over, and the introduction of bassist/vocalist Mike Duhacek (following Brandon's departure due to musical differences), Raid For Blood Diamonds has big plans for 2008. No strangers to obstacles and hard work, the boys will stop at nothing to infect the globe with their spastically catchy tunes.
