About Me

On August 7, 1949, When I was 14 years old, Lord Shiva Himself initiated me into what was to become twelve years of deep yoga tapas (austerity). I had peeled a palmyra fruit. All of a sudden, I saw a light emerging from the fruit. Simultaneously there was the sound of Aum. The fruit disappeared, and there was a Shiva Linga in my hand. The Aum continued all the while and the Shiva Linga continued to emit the same dazzling light. It broke into two half pieces and a spiritual seeker dedicated to Lord Shiva appeared before me. He sat me down and placed my feet in the correct position for meditation. He told me to close my eyes and tapped me at the bhrikuti (the spot between the eyebrows). I immediately lost outer consciousness and went into deep samadhi. I became totally unaware of my body and my surroundings. All I could see was the Linga. All I could hear was the Aum.My tapas-23 hours of daily meditation for eight years and 12 hours of daily meditation for four years-was completed in 1961, when I began my life of spiritual service. Upon completion of the 12-year tapas, I was visited by my divine guru Shiva with his consort, Parvati, the Divine Mother. Lord Shiva announced that the tapas had been successful. I initiated more than three million spiritual aspirants into meditation, established more than 50 ashrams in India and Sri Lanka and traveled at a relentless pace to fulfill my guru's mission.
I attained the final samadhi on Monday, March 28, 1994. During the chanting of Holy Bhajans many of my devotees enter an ecstatic state whereby higher spirits or astral entities enter their physical bodies and place them in a trance. The depth of the trance varies, but it is quite common to lose all body consciousness. People in trance may dance ecstatically or move around seemingly erratically-it depends upon the spirit in them. What is common to all in bhava samadhi is the feeling of spiritual bliss. Know the truth through meditation. Then you yourself will know who you are, your religion, your purpose, and your nature. Do not believe what others say and become a slave to religious prejudices.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

You, in deepest meditation. I have returned with a new dispensation for the western world. Because of the difficulty of learning bhajans in a foreign language. Because the sacred ash is not always available. I offer this simplified version of meditation. To sit with the back straight and the attention focused between the eyebrows. In a state of relaxed and natural deep breathing. Allow the mind to linger on nothing save the OM, the light of the Shiva Lingam, and I the guru. Practice at least 25 minutes a day. With this alone through the power of Shiva, king of yogis, liberation may be attained and the entire world can be changed. I declare to all the world that I am the reincarnation of Lahiri Mahasaya, and I am the unifier of the Vaisnavism and Shaivism sects.
Yogiraj's friend Ted wrote this below, it is the essence of the spiritual path
You might think I'm trying to convert you or something, but we don't try to convert people in my tradition. I just want to share with you a couple of things that I think everyone should know or at least be exposed to. Your consciousness is created in the image of The Great Creator, call him or her whatever, Krisna, Divine Mother, Yahweh, I AM or something. You are made of Godstuff, you are part of God already without having to ask for him to come into your life. God took a part of himself and put it down here and that is you. You possess the qualities of God, you are at the core of your being immortal, indestructible, joyful, compassionate, peaceful and intelligent. Meditation is just a tool we use to shut off the mundane for awhile and discover what we are at our core. The many benefits of meditation are well documented and belief in God is not even a requirement. And the person closest to you is made of the same Godstuff, so even though the persons we are close to tend to get on our nerves we must remember, that's God sitting there. When we see an Iraqi father in tears holding the broken body of his daughter after a bombing, that's God standing there in great pain. Whatever you have done to the least of these my brethren that you have also done to me. And then there are the animals, also part of God, made of Godstuff, made of God's consciousness, and then there is the Earth itself, alive...
